Every time I see this play, I still think the ball would have made it there QUICKER without Jeter's help...

Does anyone else think the same? ...All of the baseball shows always rave about how great a play it was, I never saw it that way..

Wouldn't the ball have still reached the catcher in time to get Giambi? :icon_conf

That isn't the question I'm asking...I think the ball makes it even if Jeter doesn't grab it and throw it , and may even arrive quicker had he not....I have watched this play 78 times and don't see what the big deal was.

It is hard to tell by the angle of the camera...I never saw it that way...you could be right though.

I think the ball definitely needed Jeter's help. Relay throws lose a majority of their velocity by the time it reaches the infield. That's why over 75% of relay throws need the help of the infielder to increase the speed from the infield to home. Unless of course you're someone like Vladmir, Ichiro, or Francouer. Even if it did make it home on time, it would have been most likely offline. Even if it was offline less than a foot, he would have been safe.

Thanks alot Jman for bringing this subject up again, LOL. I still have nightmares from that very eventful play.

My wrist is still sore from slamming my hand against the sofa on that play. (seriously)
