I'm sure I'm missing the obvious, but if I send a Western Union to "joe blow" in Costa Rica, I don't see what they can do? It's not illegal to send money out of the country.

If you send money to "Joe Blow" in Costa Rica via Western Union then there's not a damn thing they can do. There's numerous ways to deposit and withdrawl other than Neteller, etc.

Where one door closes another one will always open.

In the long run this might just make things better for all of us.

You're not missing the obvious at all--unless the government shut down *all* transfers in and out of the country which ain't going to happen. Even Frist wouldn't go for this (though some of his fundy friends might) and there are far too many political and business interests to name that would prevent this from every happening. As I've noted elsewhere, Western Union already makes a *ton* of revenue off of money transfers from the US to Mexico. They even spend a lot of money marketing to the Mexican-American for just this reason--just go into any check cashing store in an area with a decent sized immigrant population and you can't miss it. One can pretty safely assume that a certain percentage of those are from illegal aliens. If they're not going to shut down transfers to Mexico for this reason, they're sure as hell not going to shut down transfers to Costa Rica or Antigua for sports gaming purposes.

Even now, if you sent a money order to a book its not like you're sending it to "Carib Sports Book" or whatever. As long as you're not stupid about sending Western Union transfers there won't be any problem doing so in the future.

Agree da1...only folks who appear to have other financial or related problems have been shut-off by WU...sending small amounts is as usual as ever...and when I say small...something on the order of less than $500.00...

Just be smart about it...if you roll up to the Western Union counter and tell them that you need to send "a couple of dimes" to "your sportsbook" you deserve whatever abuse they give you

Not yet.

It will be via whats called currency controls and its going to happen here in USA.

Terrorism, patriotism, and national security will be the umbrella of terms used to pass the legislation.

Bigplay, are you out there today?

I saw last night where you'll eventually need a passport just to drive over to Canada.

When will they just tag all newborns with a computer chip?

Passports Required for Air Travel to United States as of January 23, 2007

The Departments of State and Homeland Security announced today that the requirement for citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to present a passport to enter the United States when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere will begin on January 23, 2007........

As early as January 1, 2008, U.S. citizens traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea could be required to present a valid U.S. passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible.

There is talk now they may pass on new currency and go right to the cashless society. The technology is in place and it will be easier than exposing what the current dollar is actually worth. Plus NOTHING can be spent without being traceable.

Not entirely true. You can apply for and receive a Nexus document which allows you to use the express lanes to get through the US-Canada border. It costs about the same as a passport and has only this single use.

June 4,1963.......JFK signs Executive order #11110. It takes back the power of the Government to create money based on silver reserves. More than $4 billion of $2 and $5 United States Notes (Not to be confused with Federal Reserve Notes) were printed.
$10 and $20 notes were in production at the time of his assasination.

November 12,1963..............JFK gives a speach at Columbia University........."The high office of the President has been used to impliment a plot to destroy America's freedom, and before I leave office, I must inform the citizen of this plight."

November 22,1963...........JFK assasinated.......
All United States Note production is halted.

All United States Notes in circulation are immediatly recalled.

Just a little something your kids will never see in their History books.

There is no if involved with this...its happening now and eventually they will complete halt average citizens from getting any money out of the country.

Thats why all this terrorism stuff was the best thing to ever happen for govt and many people believe (and plenty reason to believe) us govt created terrorism...an invisible, yet omnipresent enemy.

Now, everything they want to pass (that prior 9-11 they would never get away with) they merely slap a hint or outright label tying anything to terrorism and its gets approved.

Not only is there little or no resistance, they are applauded for "protecting" us.

Another great post bigplay and no, that wont be in any history books.
