That is, a set amout for entertainment, food, gas, etc.......

I have tried to stick to a budget for years, but fail every time.:realtongu

Best thing to do is to give broad categories of "discretionary" that go beyond the basic bills you have each month. Too many categories makes it tough.

went to a budget of CASH ONLY (Debit card from the bank) and NO Credit Cards about a year ago and its fabulous, once you get off the CC trap you learn to live more within your means and never go back to that BS.

We are on our way to being debt free save our Mortgage within 3 years and the amount of cash we will have in hand monthly at that point, thanks to the budget, is staggering! Best thing about it is, for the most part, we can project out to any month and know where we will be at that point given we stick to our budget, and we have all along.

Simple but very powerful.
