I tried to tell everyone that Jeff Weaver has been pitching well but I guess not too many listened. Though I am not a bases guy and only started getting back into the game about a month ago, all I did all summer was watch Cardinal Baseball. The Cards young pitchers (Tyler Johnson,Randy Flores,Josh Kinney, and Wainwright) are growing up before our very eyes. I had no doubt Weaver would pitch well. I was concerned about the bullpen. Wow! These guys have been lights out and our only proven commodity in Braden Looper has not set foot on the mound. Cards may not have had best record in NL and limped due to a ton of reasons, in my mind, this is the team to beat in NL!

Kojak, i know we're both big cards fans and it feels SOOO good to see our pitching finally performing WELL...i get scared sometimes that LaRussa is over-managing (pulling tyler johnson after back to back k's, pulling weaver maybe an inning too early?) and how BAD rolen is batting right now behind albert...lets bust out the brooms on sat!!!! Would put a lot less stock in Weaver pitching well today than SD offense vanishing as it typically does at Petco. Weaver was not sharp at all. He fell behind lots of batters and was in deep counts. Pads let him off the hook. Blum and Walker hit FOUL home runs. Padres couldn't hit at home all year and it showed up at the worst possible time. Can't believe we let that bum beat us at home in the playoffs. If Weaver faces the mets he would give up 5 ER or more, let alone what would happen if the Yanks saw him.

guess its a good thing we arent playing the mets and were playing a team in the absolute WORST division in baseball that we own in the playoffs...and a foul homerun is nothing more than a foul ball...stop making excuses for a team that has 10 hits and 1 run in two baseball games....

Nobody is making excuses. Pads' lineup today was embarassing. Just pointing out not to make anything of Weaver. He hardly threw well.

Whormoan,
You are wrong about Weaver. He threw well setting down like 8 ina row and only giving up like 2 hits. He was hitting the black of the plate all day. I am sorry but on STPostDispatch board, they are saying Duncan picked up on Pads hitters tendencies to only look for fastballs so all pitchers were told to throw a ton of curve balls regardless of counts. Pads hitters were frozen all day no matter who was pitching.
