Asikainen wins on points. Next up, the 5'11", 118 lbs Tshifhiwa Munyai against cocky Naz-wannabe Lee Haskins , who's moving up from flyweight. I believe Haskins wild-swinging style will be ineffective against the "huge" Munyai.

I'll be posting all my boxing plays in this thread from now on. I've never tracked my plays and I'm pretty sure that I haven't done well overall in boxing, but I've been on a nice roll lately. Here's hoping I avoid making a fool of myself.

Another parlay for tomorrow:

Not Casamayor inside distance -464
Valuev inside distance -166

Risking 2 units to win 1.89 unit

Corrales weighed in 5 pounds over the limit and lost his title on the scales tonight... talk about hypocrisy, right after the JLC fiasco. Hope the fight still happens.

Barrett offers nothing more than Valuev's past opponents and he's not smart enough to last 12 rounds in there. He'll go for broke à la Owen Beck and go down somewhere in the middle of the fight.

Adding

Valuev-Barrett DRAW +2941 for 0.07 unit, to win 2.05 units

Just to cover my ass in case Barrett does find himself a brain and makes it a tough fight for Big V.

I may put more on this one later on, but for now I've got:

Kessler-Beyer OVER 9.5 rounds -110 @ TheGreek (thanks boxlocks!)

Risking 1.1 unit to win 1 unit

Waiting for fight outcome lines to come up before I commit more to the OVER

Wow. Bet365 has the OVER 8.5 rounds +125. Also Kessler by decision +200, which is lower than I thought it would be. The over bet remains the most sensible option - it covers a Beyer upset win by decision (unlikely but far from impossible) and a Kessler decision and/or late (T)KO.

Again, I feel pretty strongly that Beyer won't be stopped - if he is, it'll be way late in the fight. He's a southpaw and he's got a strong beard - he's faced tough punchers before and was only stopped once in his career, by Glenn Catley (KOBY12)

That line may look like a trap, but it's nothing more than the public being overconfident in Kessler's power.

OVER 8.5 rounds +125

Risking 2 units to win 2.5

Ouch. Fight started as expected in round 1, but it became obvious in round 2 that Kessler would tag Beyer solidly all night long. Beyer took a solid 1-2 at the end of the 3rd, went down and decided not to get back up.

2-2, -0.34 unit

Sat. Oct. 21

Parlay

Mario Veit / Denis Inkin OVER 9.5 rounds -180
Ivan Calderon / Jose Luis Varela - Calderon -900

Risking 3 units to win 2.18 units

Crazy juice on Calderon, but the guy is the goods - he'd be a superstar if he only he were a foot taller and 50 pounds heavier :lolBIG:

Alright, here's an obvious one for Saturday Nov. 4. This is easily my largest boxing wager ever.

Floyd Mayweather -541 risking 21.64 units to win 4 units

It's not a lock, but I do see good value in that -541. Baldomir's only hope is that PBF quits after breaking his hands.

Adding:

Floyd Mayweather by decision -153 risking 3.06 units to win 2 units

Briggs steals the fight with one frickin' second to go in the 12th round! Liakhovich might've won on the cards, but it was a close, boring fight.

Mayweather UD in a snoozer. Oh well, we'll take the money.

4-4 +2.99 units

Another obvious pick for Saturday Nov. 11:

Klitschko inside distance -160

Risking 8 units to win 5

Excellent value here. Should be -250 or so - bettors wary of Klitschko's past stamina and chin problems. Fact is, the post-Brewster Klitschko has learned to pace himself and work his jab from the outside to soften his opponent before going in for the kill. Brock doesn't have Peter-level power, so no worries there.

Klitschko (T)KO Brock inside 8

Boxing Question

Given your obvious expertise on boxing, do you have any clue what the answer is to False Dimitri's question about why they give a belt to the winner in boxing matches?
I realize you probably would have answered already if you knew, but just in case you didn't read it, I thought I would ask you here. Thanks.

Hadn't seen the thread, sorry.

Dunno. Probably 'cause a boxer can't easily hold anything in his hands while wearing gloves?

I just found this... earliest example of a championship boxing belt, the Lonsdale Belt:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/sport/boxing/lonsdale.shtml

Still doesn't give a reason why a belt over any other trinket.

Well at least you gave it a shot. Thanks for the link, very interesting.
I guess I thought you men had something in your genetics that imprinted these answers at birth. :toast:
