You may recall he was on the field this summer walking to first base in July, batting in a minor league All-Star game.

He finished ONE vote shy of 2006 HOF nomination in his last year on earth...one vote!

He talked hitting with Babe Ruth , Lou Gehrig and Ichiro, that alone is amazing. :103631605

Very sad news. It is a great injustice that he wasn't inducted before his pasing. I can recall his speech upon the induction of many Negro League players and contibutors, and he seemed very humbled with the honor of presenting them. Never held any animosity towards those that kept him out in the face of criticisms from those in the media calling for his inclusion. He will be in the Hall next season, and wil always be remembered as long as this baseball fan is around..

I have baseball seats behind where he would sit...all game long fans would come down and want autographs, pictures and just shoot the shit with him. He never got pissy and always was the most friendly guy in the park. Sad news.

Most of those "contributors" should have never made the Hall. I have met Buck before and he was a very humble man. Such a shame he didn't make the HOF while he was alive.
