In the spring of 1984 I was in the 7th grade and we where learning about the law. The subject was something to do with witnesses and could you describe to the police what you saw at a crime scene. After a small discussion in comes a masked gunman, screaming and shooting and running out of the room.

Needless to say most of us, were lying under our desk and petrified. We were then asked to describe what we saw and try to put together a police drawing by describing to our teacher. We couldn't come to much of an agreemeent on it and most didn't remember anything. We found out later that the gunman was our principal dressed up with a mask and they were just trying to teach us what happens at a crime scene investigation involing witnesses.

It was actually an excellent learing expierence and one I have never forgot. But everytime I see shooting on the news, I think back to what would happen if someone tried that apporach, teaching students today. I would imagine they would be fired on the spot.

I always wonder what my teacher and principal would have to say about this if I or someone confornted them today about that little learning expierment. Wow, the world has really changed alot in the past 20 years.

If it happened today, one of the students might accidentally shoot him, since most of them are packin these days instead of books.

Acouple of years ago in CR, they had a rehearsal, about a bank robbery or something like that, and a off duty cop came in a shot the "gunman", who apparently had a hostage.... he thought he was saving them and shot a fellow officer, it was really sad...

Talk about changes....

I graduated high school in mid 80's in rural Oklahoma. We had a smoking area near the snack bar for the students.

One day a guy a couple years older than me was talking in class (not in a totally disruptive way..but slightly disruptive) and the biology teacher sent him from the room for a few minutes...to sit outside. Well, class ended before his time was up and as I left class and walked outside, the fellow was sitting outside with his back against the wall cleaning his deer rifle. I said 'hey' and he said, 'hey' and I went on to my next class.
