WHO is the Heisman front runner , at this point? OSU's Smith has to be at the top.

If Troy Smith keeps playing the way he did against Bowling Green Saturday, he's liable to pull away in October and make this a very predictable Heisman race....

This past weekend, he had as many touchdown passes as incompletions, three!!! While picking up 54 yards rushing to remind those who forgot that he can still make plays when he tucks and runs.

At this point I believe it is his trophy to lose :suomi: he has come a long way fast!

CHRIS LEAK would have to be considered a prime contender...........and if he has a good game this weekend and the GATORS win............he would get my vote.

Not many will agree but Garrett Wolfe from Northern Illinois COULD steal this thing...he has an outside shot if Smith gets injured, or OSU somehow falls apart and loses a couple games....I don't see that happening.

He already has over 1300 yards.

Troy Smith isn't even close to being the best college quarterback let alone the best college football player. The press is backing him because Ohio State is the #1 team and they are clueless as to why. He has 2 players on that team that are more valuable to his teams success than him. And he throws them the ball!

I am impressed with how good Troy Smith is getting, but to say he's the best player is laughable.

It will be interesting to see how many yards he rushes for against the HAWKEYES in a few weeks.

It's Troy Smith's to lose. I'd love to see his stats if Tressel would run the score up on teams or played the level of competition that WVU and others have faced.

The Heisman trophy does NOT go to the best player in many cases...

Does he have the most upside in the college draft...of course not...

Without him though Ohio State would not be the #1 team in the country...He pretty much carried them over Notre Dame last year, the guy is a playmanker and made several game winning plays in that game....

To come and say he's not the most talented player in the country is pretty weak IMO. ...he a hell of a lot better than most people realize or thought he would be...the guy has an arm on him.

I've got a nice preseason wager on T. Smith to win the Heisman, I'm pretty much only worried about A. Peterson right now.

He also sucked big time against Penn State and the defense saved Them that day, But Troy Smith will somehow get credit for that win.

McNabb, Vick, Palmer and now Smith in College. The press is way too quick to give the quarterbacks the glory when for the most part the teams defense and the building of an offensive line is what makes teams great. Not just an average quarterback.

And average quarterbacks do look good sometimes when they get to play for a very good solid team. Eagles, Falcons, Bengals, and of course this Ohio State football team that would still go undefeted if Troy Smith get hurt. It's not going to stop this team. In fact I would say that Troy Smith might be the weakest part of this team.

Watch the Penn State game and you will see how Troy Smith can cost them a game against a top team. He really sucked that day and could do it again.

In fact I would bet on it happening.

You have nothing to worry about with A. Peterson. 2 loses and after his lazy, half ass attitude last Saturday vs. Texas did his chances in. Standing there with a live ball while the Texas defender picks it up and runs it in for a TD. Clearly not even captain of his team material yet alone Heisman caliber leadership.

Peterson blew his big chance last weekend...if he had a monster game in the Red River Rivalry with Texas then yeah I could see him being right there..he did not though, I see him around 3rd or 4th..OU is not an elite team now, that hurts him big time.

Oh yeah McNab, Vick and Palmer... all bums I guess :lolBIG:

The Penn State game was played in a freakin rain storm, something even the great John Elway could not throw in....weakest part of the team :icon_conf

He could rush for 3000 yards and won't win it, NIU beats no one worth a crap. Not this year anyway.

very Tru guys about AP, still got a 100 though and if T. Smith chokes against Michigan or even this week, maybe AP will have chalked up some 200+ games against weak competition.

Besides AP, you think Quinn is still in the running? Not that worried about Slaton, Leak or others. I can't see a guy from N. Ill winning the Heisman, that will not happen imo. Who is missing?

The guarterback for Iowa if he played for Ohio State would be unreal. He throws the football right on target. There were some plays in the Iowa/Ohio State game where Tate drilled a sideline pass to a covered receiver and put the ball right on target. And then on when Ohio State had the ball the exact same pass was needed and Troy Smith didn't come close to getting the ball there. Tates arm is 10 time better than Smiths.

In college sometimes players can look so good if you don't really watch the whole game. During the games Troy Smith will fail on so many plays it's not even a question as to why the Ohio State football team is so good. And it has nothing to do with Troy Smith.

Yeah and I guess you seem somehow to forget that amazing scramble and 55 yard bullet Smith threw to Robo in the PSU game as well. Under rainy conditions. The guy is clutch. I mean, he's only gone into #2 Texas and #11 Iowa along with beating #24 Penn St in the first month of the season. Along with picking apart Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl for a record 670 yards of total offense and being 2-0 as a starter vs Michigan. If Tressle had no class like some other coaches and ran the scores up on his oppenents then Smith's stats would be even more impressive then they all ready are!

Palmer, Vick, and McNabb...yeah, those guys sure suck too. :thumbsup2:

LMAO..is that why Tate had 3 interceptions vs. Ohio State? They weren't playing Montana or Syracuse that Saturday. Love how Tate was so frusterated and humilitated in Columbus last season that he spiked the ball after being sacked. Yeah, that's real Heisman leadership skills at their best!

It seems like T. Smith is the front runner but no one else wants to step up to the plate here to challenge him. Urban Meyer is taking snaps away from Leak in the red zone and giving them to Tebow (who had 2 passing Td's and a rushing Td) and Peterson looking average the last couple of weeks.

Personally, this years race isn't exactly interesting to me at all this year.
