I use 10-10-9-8-7 for Canada, and it's very cheap.

Wife called daughter in Dominican ( vacation) got nailed for like $2/ minute, over $100.

She's going to Bahamas now. Does 10-10-9-8-7 make it reasonable, or is there anything else ?

I don't know much about it, but you might want to look at Skype

I use Skype. It's something like $10 for 6 hours or about 2 cents a minute from Singapore to the US. It's different for each country and it's best to wear headphones or it's hard to hear.

Skype-to-Skype calls are free!!! If you have someone in another country you wish to call and they have a computer and an Internet connection you talk for free.

Bahamas are 10.4 Canadian cents a minute.

Check out the rate to the country you wish to call:

skype would work if she has access to the internet

other way would be for her to call you (1 minute), you call her back WHATEVER way, hotels always charge you gazillions for phone calls

if you can use vonage , skype or your regular landline ANYTHING will be cheaper than her calling you from the hotel

edit:oops nevermind, it seems the 100 dollars came from your end...........skype sounds the best thing you could do unless you have voice over IP service (like vonage, but it doesn't sound like you have that)

try voipbuster.com or internetcalls. Call Poland all the time and sound quality is great.

My cell is about .06-10 cents/minute just about any place you'd want to call in the world and 50-1/minute to use it anywhere in the world.

Many phone companies have monthly international plans.

Skype allows you to call land phones and cell phones all over the world (or as they say in Singapore, mobile phones). The service is called SkypeOut. The link that I posted in my message is for the SkypeOut service.

I'm looking more for just a quick shortcut way since this is only less than a week. Something like dial a few numbers to pay a small connection fee ( $1?), then 15 cents a minute, instead of $2. I don't think the cell has a setup for this.

Canada is something like 39 cents/ 3 cents a minute with 10-10-9-8-7.

Hey Doug:

How do you call 10-10-9-8-7? I can't find the "10" key on my phone.

Go to the chinese store and buy a $5-10 phone card. They last a couple hours.

In Philly the chinese grocery stores sell these $5 or $10 international phone cards. You call a 800 number and type in your pin and then the number you want to call. You usually get about 2-3 hours at least, depending on where you're calling.

Some of these cards do have connection fees...so you'll get off the phone thinking you have 100 minutes left...but the next time you call you'll only have 25 min left.

But IMO despite the connection fees...it still saves money if calling out of the country.

Phone cards are widely available at supermarkets. I get the $5 one with no connection fee and use it from a private land line, to avoid a charge from a payphone. Check for the best rate and you'll get 1-2 hours to most anywhere.

I made the mistake of making a 30 minute call to England a few months ago on my landline, which has Sprint long distance, and even though I made the call at 5am EST I got charged $2.84 a minute!

the person you are calling does not need to have SKYPE, you can dial normal numbers with SKYPE
