Clarett is no Ann Landers

Disgraced Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett is writing a blog from the Toledo Correctional Institution where he is serving 3 ½ years for aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.
Clarett told the Associated Press he is writing with the intention of preventing others from making the same mistakes that landed him in jail for a holdup outside a Columbus bar.
Hopefully he will advise young, elite athletes not to have their hands out looking for illegal, under-the-table payouts, which is the way Clarett and his mother operated since he was in middle school, according to an NFL scout I talked to back when Clarett's whole sordid career fell apart after he flopped as a third-round pick of the Denver Broncos.
He can also counsel others on the mistake of using Grey Goose vodka as a performance enhancer and making false insurance claims when their cars are vandalized, as Clarett did. Making false claims to collect insurance money is another mistake Clarett can blog about after he lied about losing $10,000 in merchandise in his vandalized car.
Clarett's open-palm policy was perfect for Ohio State, where head coach Jim Tressell turned a blind eye toward the expensive cars and thousands of dollars Clarett received. According to his own accounts, Clarett was accepting illegal gifts from boosters before he ever accepted a handoff for the Buckeyes. Clarett gladly took all he could get and then tried to cast himself as the exploited and unwitting dupe of a corrupt NCAA system to make himself appear the victim.
Now he wants to advise others to avoid the mistakes he made. He should have enough material to blog every day until the end of his sentence and then some.
