Last night on Jimmy Kimmel, Robin Williams had a great quote describing Canada.

"Canada is like the people who rent apartments over a loud bar where they constantly have parties."

You will have zero problems opening an account in Canada. Try Bank of Montreal, as I have spoken to them directly and they will take US citizens easily. You will need photo ID and proof of citizenship, and that's it. You can also, obviously, access your funds online for transfer purposes.

Windsor (across from Detroit) is a little far from me, but if you end up at the Niagara Falls border I'd be happy to take you out for a drink (or ten)!

Long story, but I lost my avatar in a bet.

Tiki Barber is out, but I'll find something different soon enough. I think I have to keep this one up for another week or so.

SS is right. Also CIBC visas work without a problem. TD visas do not seem to allow gaming transactions same with any Canadian credit card issued from an American bank (mbna, citi etc).

Xpanda,

I'd be the one willing to pay for the one drink (or even 10 - but I would likely be passed out long before that).

However, I do have to be (unfortunately - no offense to any Buffalo residents on this board) in the Buffalo area in either mid-November or early-December (to accommodate the schedule of government workers). What would be the closest Bank of Montreal branch that you would be aware of near the Niagara Falls crossing?

Can a US citizen with good credit easily get approved for one of these cards simply by applying online?

I'm still using Bank of America but I rarely fund and withdraw just cycling through NETeller. Will let you know when/if I get cut off.

cdsmoney, check for BOM branch locations at:

http://www4.bmo.com/

using "locate us" at top of web page.

Xpanda -

Does that offer go for me too - the drinks?

I have a home up at Lake Chatauqua just south of Buffalo.

Woody (maybe even Sean1),

Any idea of the province and a possible city nearest the border at Niagara Falls. I'm used to states and counties, but I'm all thumbs with provinces.

Thanks all for any input.

Oops, I forgot y'all think we live in igloos and are permanently covered in snow and ice, just like Buffalo today, and have no knowledge of our geography.

Anyway its Niagara Falls, Ontario just across the bridge from Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara falls is about 10-15 miles across the border. There are banks there. I doubt there is a city closer although there might be some banks closer to customs.

Niagara Falls is on the border, maybe 15 miles from Buffalo. The border is the mid-line of the Niagara river and certainly Brett Favre could launch the ball from Niagara Falls, New York and have it land in Niagara Falls Ontario.

Probably be intercepted though.

The answer to that is no sorry. Your American credit rating does not corssover to Canada so no credit history means your application will be declined.
