To give you some idea of where we rank on the foodchain of the mainstream media and the non-gambling general public, consider that the top story on CNN.com at the moment is about the closing of the iconic New York City punk club CBGB's. To be fair, it spawned the career of a "who's who" of bands--the Ramones, Blondie, The Talking Heads, Television, The Dictators, among others--but with nary a mention of the port bill or its online gambling restrictions on the main page its a good way to get some perspective about the importance of "our thing" in the outside world.

It was mentioned on CNN as they covered the signing ceremony this morning. From the curious smile I couldn't decide whether they figured online gambling was small potatoes or the Act would be ineffectual.

In my little bs history books from 1964, I recall that the Pilgims were the first to settle here....0K... great....except that all of the Pilgrims dogma has been beaten into oblivion in the last 4 centuries......except for.......gulp!........gambling!! Even the ballbusting country they came from, accepted gambling long ago, and have made it exactly as it should be; part of life! Gambling is not small potatoes, and the shitbag media that denies it, will change their story before they are proven wrong....... I have something that I like to do, and I believe my stubborn nature and my bankroll will determine when I hang up my offshore accounts, not some squirrelly Senator from....where is this creep from anyway?.....

If you're referring to Frist, he's from Tennessee...

Speaking of the media, how many times have you heard this story mis-reported? Media always says a law banning online gambling has been signed by the president. Only one time out of half a dozen reports did I hear them actually report what the essence of this law is.

Most of the general public, some gamblers included have no idea about this bill.

It's not on the news hardly at all. The only way I would know about it is through forums like this.

Even on the rare occasion the bill does come up, unless you are watching a sports show, they mostly talk about how they think they are real people and have power and are just talking about the unlawful entry into ports on nuclear weapons. No shit. We need a law about that?
