I have a local that says a push on a total is actually a LOSS in his book.

I have finally (after years) convinced him this is bullsh!t!!!

He says if game is lined 37 and you bet OVER 37 than it must go OVER for you to win.

Finally, tonite he says he will let me have a push. :dancefool

Does anyone else have this problem with their locals? Seems to be the old school bookie rule/scam.

Before the offshore explosion, bookies had every rule in the book in their favor. Competition is a good thing in any industry.

exactly. I know the rules. He is VERY beneficial to what I am doing and he ALWAYS pays. I just don't many totals with him, if I do I add the half point in my head to his number and realizie that is what I have to beat to win.

I remember when the books first started taking totals, they would set a total for a game at say 37-39. You had to go over 39 for the over and under 37 for the under. Guess what happened if it landed on 38!

I remember many years ago before off-shore betting parlay sheets at the place I worked. The bookie not only had terrible payout odds(5 FOR 1, 4 to 1 that is for 3) but rounded off all the numbers so many games could not be won by either side and if you had one push it was a loser. 6 team parlay and you actually won 5 and pushed 6th it a was a total loss. The guy still had plenty of people playing and some were even playing 10 team parlays at 125-1! Tried to explain the futility of that too one guy that played them every week and he just said 'its only $10 a week'. Morons.
No way going back to that. Only about 12 years ago , too.

I remember when local bookies gave totals that were

36-38

you had to go under 36 or over 38

if it landed on 37 everyone loses.

used to have a handful of these guys also.

push on total would be a loss and even in teasers you would have to outright win as a win and push would be graded as a loss.

always thought that was nornmal business until hitting the boards in 99.

guys like this are still in business today with a nice list of players.

tons of players are scared to send money offshore and bet online.

nobody to blame but yourself for betting with him........

find a better book...gl

I have over 20 offshore accounts. If he (local) has the best number and a push is loss than I still have use for him. A slow moving, old school local can still be VERY good to have.

Not really complaining as his numbers are soft but more or less asking and laughing at this old rule amongst bookies.

The Man....you are absolutely correct when you say there are TONS of players that are afraid to send funds offshore....there are still alot of players that don't even know about offshore gambling also.

slow moving numbers are a bonus.........but the loss on a push isnt

Unless he's giving the best number with the push. Say the total with the local is 40 with a push as a loss and everyone online has 37. If ice is looking for the under he will go with the local. Effectively the 40 with a push as a loss is equivalent to a 39 1/2.

WRONG - sorta

in these ripoff cards TIES LOSE which is why almost every game is 3 or 7 and most have it even worse

U42
O46

meaning they have a MASSIVE gap to take all money - yet morons play these cards all the time. see yours truly for proof - dad used to bring these home all the time and we used to play them and NEVER won

That's like a casino saying a push loses in BJ, but as long as you add the hook, then compare... it works !

A stale over 37 ( with local rules), beats over 38, if both are -110.

my local just says all pushes on a teaser is a loss, and all pushes on a regular bet (spread or total) is a 10% fee...and i still complain about it.

terms are terms, if the terms of the local beat the odds of what you can get online, then it's fair enough ! Just weigh it out, and take what is the best.
