The Daily Racing Form On-line; looks to have stopped all advertizing from the Offshore Books!!
As recently as Sept. several books had ads there daily and for YEARS! One of them being Sportsbook.com.

So, if the New York based DRF is stopping this....I think they know something serious is up.

I wouldn't read too much into this....they probably figured that the revenue they received from online book advertising didn't justify the exposure.

They took it down because now that it is legal to bet horses over the net and other stuff, they will now simply start taking adds from there own people.

With international comingling on the way, this is just a clear out move for that.

Look for stuff to be replaced quickly, with home grown as well as foriegn stuff. Now that everything is legal but sports, the advertising gloves will come off and its open season.

THEY DONT NEED THE OFFSHORES ANYMORE.

No other single publication in the US is read more by gamblers as far as I know.

You are probably right da1prophet..about their exposure-profits.

Just think about where the DRF gets their revenue from....the sports book referal profits would be very insignificant compared to their other revenue streams. Since they're juiced in to one of the "legal" forms of gambling here in the US (horse racing) its probably just a precautionary move so as not to kill their golden goose..

And you're probably right about it being the most read publication by gamblers.

It has been legal to bet horses on the internet for years from the US.

99.5% may be a little high; but not drastically high. Internet wagering on horse racing has indeed been legal for years in most states and nothing in the law chaged that.
The DRF stopping the ads--meaning they take the language seriously and it could be a concern for others like possibly banks, etc.

There was allways a certain comfort level seeing the ads from several offshore books on the pages of the DRF.

I haven't bothered reading this bill so someone help me out. Is it legal to bet on horses, by phone or internet, through an offshore book or is that banned as well?

The DOJ has claimed it is illegal period. The law passed didn't really clear it up either, it just it didn't intend to change anything in prior passed horse racing legislation. Still there are no real laws against betting on horse racing, just in taking them as a business.
