I retitled this thread due to the general apathy it received before. It's pretty sad--if I posted a thread entitled "I sodomized a goat last night" it would have 3000 views and a couple hundred "yeah, me too" type responses. Anyway, here's my battle plan for our online gambling counterinsurgency:

A lot has been said here about what we should and shouldn't do to show our opposition to the recently signed online gambling bill. Here's a chance to put your money where your mouth is.

In Arizona, Jon Kyl is running against Democrat Jim Pederson. Kyl is favored to retain his seat--to put it into a context we all understand, BoDog has Kyl 1/3, Pederson at 9/11.

In Tennessee, Harold Ford Jr. is the Democrat running for the seat that Bill Frist is retiring from. BoDog has this race Ford 7/13, with Frist's hand picked successor, Bob Corker at 9/11.

While there's certainly other races involving candidates who supported or opposed the online gambling legislation, these are the two we should target IMO. Kyl has made online gambling regulation a pet issue for years. We all know what Frist's deal was and while he's not running, his proxy is.

It's one thing for us all log on to MSNBC or CNBC or wherever and vote in online polls. I'm of the opinion that we should at least make an effort to influence the "poll" that really matters.

Here's what I've done, and what I'm going to challenge everyone who wants to take action about this to do. Visit the websites of Pederson and Ford--I've posted their links below. Make a campaign contribution in whatever amount you wish. Then click on their "contact" link and email them, call them, or otherwise contact them. Tell them that you just donated money to their campaign, and tell them why you did so. If enough of us donate, and then contact these candidates to tell them why we did, at the very least it'll get their attention.

If enough of us do this it will have the potential of doing one of three things:

1) It will help finance the campaigns against two of offshore gaming's biggest enemies.

2) It will demonstrate to the candidates that their may be political advantage to attacking their opponent's stance on this issue.

3) Best case scenario--Jon Kyl gets sent packing and Frist's "retirement" costs his party his seat.

I know a lot of you will say that its a waste of time, or why bother? But this is different than something symbolic like a letter writing campaign. This communicates with the political power base in the only language they understand: cold, hard American cash and the power and votes they can buy. If you're angry with the way that Frist subverted the legislative process at our expense, and how Kyl cheered him along this is the best way for you to take meaningful action.

Anyway, I've sent each candidate a c-note and an email explaining why I've done so. Hopefully some more of you will do the same.
