Tony Larussa has the 3rd most wins of any manager all time. He has been arguably the best regular season manager in our lifetime. He will likely someday have a place in Cooperstown. All of that is great but he also may go down as one of the biggest chokers as a manager in post season history. Cards were never favored to beat Mets or even Padres, but Larussa was on his way to getting a 83 win team that no one thought had a chance back to the WS for 2nd time in 3 years. Tonight's Game 7 will define Tony's managers career not only with the Cardinals but his entire career. He choked in 83 with White Sox. He choked in 88 and 90 with A's. He choked in 96,00,01,04,and 05 with Cardinals. Only his 89 A's team lived up to expectations. He has a chance to erase all of his ghosts and validate himself as one of the great managers of all time by winning Game 7 in NY tonight. Losing a tight game or a tight series that the Cardinals were never supposed be in won't cut it. Larussa, it is put up or shut up time! Here is your chance if not, maybe it should be your last chance in Cardinal Red imo as I think it should be time for a change in St. Louis. I believe in Larussa but this will be his last straw with me and many other Cardinal fans. Here is his wake up call! Get the players ready mentally and make sure you play the right guys tonight (the ones that have no fear) and leave it out on the field.

...........and then be right back to square one (or worse) after he gets swept by the Tigers.

Your being way over dramatic with this ONE game this evening.

He needs to go on and win the WS to ease the negative opinions that many have towards him............tonights game will do very little other than provide him that oppurtunity.

Couldn't agree with you more on this, this is huge for LaRussa because he will get one more shot at the WS, you need to win this to get here though. But even if his team does win this one, they will have to do one better and beat Detroit if he wants the respect.

Kojak - I repect your opinion but crucifying Larussa if he doesn't win the game tonight is a little over the top... The Mets have the best team in the NL and should win the series. The Cardinals winning 3 games against them really says alot for them. The Mets have the highest payroll in the NL. If the Cards win, it will be the Mets that should be crucified.

Since when does payroll win championships? In fact, we could make a good case for the exact opposite.

Larussa does need to prove himself. Every great manager does at one point in time.

Why does Larussa need to prove himself...You said it yourself, he is a great manager. I don't understand. So if Larussa goes to the Royals he needs to win the World Series to prove himself?????????

I'd say Bobby Cox is better, at least very similar, neither seem to be able to muster up whats required in the BIG games.

15 years later he will be finishing it off with the White Sox

This is as wild as if the Rays were to fire Cash and bring back Lou Piniella
