I'm moving at the end of the month and am no longer under contract with my current provider, Dish Network. Was thinking about switching to DirecTV to get the NFL Sunday Ticket. However, I love everything else about Dish Network; my bills are low ($64 a month for America's top 120 channels, 3 receivers, and dual-tuner DVR), and the biggie is that the guide is very intuitive. I'm not sure but I remember in the past going to a friend's house who had DirecTV and being confused as hell as to where the channels were. ESPN was like 208 and there were a bunch of channels in the middle he didn't get and then ABC was like 905. :nohead:

Anyone have DirecTV? If so, would you recommend?
TIA

I can't imagine what I did without it. Getting alot of the sports packages makes it pricey-but wirht it to be able to watch almost any event at any time.
Channels are easil learned. Hell my 2 yr old can tell you 292-297 are the caroon channel and she asks for them by number!!

Cool. One more question that might sound trivial but it's important to me...when you pull up the guide, can you still see and/or hear the current channel you are watching? Right now if I am watching a game and hit "guide", the game minimizes to the top right of the screen and I can still see and hear it while I browse other channels.

Also, DVR packages are obviously available, right?

The answer to both your questions is yes. When looking at the guide, the program you are watching will appear in the upper right hand.

When you call Directv as a new customer, sometimes they have special offers that actually GIVE you a DVR as a gift.

direct tv is the best for a sports fam..especially nfl...

one lesson learned though...

if you buy, say the MLB ticket...you better make sure you want it the next year, because if you dont call and cancel it...they renew it automatically...

same goes for nba and ncaa sports....

directv will let you 'suspend' your acct at any time......... for instance if you only want the nfl sunday ticket for the four month... you may 'suspend' it after that until next football season......

i have cable and directv...... i only use directv for the sunday ticket, this year i will pay an extra 70 bucks a month for the ticket and premier channels...... then i will suspend.......

question for those that have directv..... do you get the sunday ticket games in widescreen ....... i hate to stretch it cause it looks distorted..... but prefer widescreen hdtv

Direct tv is cool. Lots of sports options, good customer service. If something goes wrong, threaten to go to cable, it works! But yes they automatically re new all sports packages- but they tell you far enough ahead, you just tell them you don't want them.

Dish Network automatically renews sports packages too...I have had the NBA ticket for years and it always renews.

I let DTV go ahead and renew my package, then call up Retention and complain. Then the fun starts as the deals to keep you a happy customer start rolling and they'll cancel the renewal.

If you want/have HDTV, Dish is much better than DirecTV. DTV's HD is so shitty they're getting sued in a class action lawsuit. I have digital cable because I have a million TVs(more like 5) in my house and don't wanna purchase multiple receivers. Used to have DirecTV though.

Directv is the place for sports.

I had both, and Directv is much more user friendly as far as the guides go. All the sports channels are in a certain place, all the news channels, stock channels, movie channels, etc...... all have there organized spot.

They will give you a DVR for free if you call.

And I have had Showtime for free 3 years running, because they keep renewing my NBA ticket and I act pissed!!!!
