With the big Game 7 tonight in NY, my mind has been in a nolstalgic mode today. A lot of memories of good times I have had in my life regarding my Cardinals. Three memories come to mind:

First of course was in 1982. Parents had put me to bed, on the night of Game 6 in World Series. Cards were down 3-2 with John Stuper on the mound in must win situation. I remember having my radio on and staying up late into the night as game was delayed my rain for what seemed to be a long time. Cards won 13-1 and I remember waking everyone in the house up when they got the 27th out. Parents were not happy and even grounded me though the next morning let me off as they understood and were in better mood.

Second, was in 1985. They played a ton of day playoff baseball. I remember it was Game 5 in NLCS. Raced home from school to see if Cards could take lead on Dodgers in best of 7 after being down 2-0. I remember getting home in 9th inning. Cards hold Dodgers in tie game and in bottom of 9th, all time great Cardinal moment occurred. Jack Buck makes call...Long one into right.....Go Crazy Folks! Go Crazy! Cards win 3-2 on a home run by the Wizard! Sister and I went absolutely nuts.

Third was actually last year in Game 6. Went to Busch to watch my Cards lose series. I had played several games and watched several games in Busch. It was the last game at Busch. Larry Walker comes out into right field which is where I was sitting. Cards chant one more year. I got all choked up and actually started crying as it was the end of Busch Stadium. One of the saddest days as it was like a moment that signified the end of my childhood even though it had long passed.

I thought I would share some of my great moments with the significance of the night. Game 7's are wonderful and heartbreaking. Would love to hear others moments. My stomach has been in knots all day wondering what tonight brings. I am bracing myself all day for disappointment. I hope I am wrong. Cards are back on the cliff, will Mets push them off? We will find out soon. BOL and thanks for sharing your stories.

I felt like a kid in 1995 after Game 5 at the Kingdome SEA vs NYY. And at the time, I actually didn't think anything could top Edgar's Game 4 performance. I still get goosebumps seeing highlights of Game 5.

The same would go for Game 5 of the 1988 Series when Gimpy Gibby went deep.

When baseball was everything to me, my Oakland A's rattled off three straight. '72, '73 and 74. I was 8 in 72. That was sweet. Being at games 3 and 4 at the stick in '89 was better though cause we could drink. LOL

My best memories are not of any particular games. When I was in 7th grade or so me and my friend used to take the bus downtown to the old Cleveland municipal stadium and buy $4.00 general admission tickets and sit behind homeplate. It was an 80,000 seat stadium and they were lucky to get 5,000 people to each game. It was fun moving from seat to seat (that should have cost a lot more than $4.00) Joe Carter, Corey Snider, Julio Franco, those were the days. They lost all the time but it was fun.

I only got to go to one game during those first 6 years at Jacobs field when they soldout everygame.

:toast:

Did one of those foul balls hit you in the head? The Tigers will give up one game if the Cards are lucky. If you are so confident I'm sure you will get +300 or more for the Cards to win the series.

I was 9 in 1987 when the Twins won for the first time, and it was the year that I really, really got interested in baseball, at least to the maniacal level of today.

But in 1991 I was actually lucky enough to get tickets. My dad and I sat WAY up in the nosebleed seats, by the Jumbotron left-center field in the Metrodome for Game 6, one of the greatest games ever played in baseball history, IMHO. Those seats don't even exist in most stadiums, they're so damn far away from the action, but it didn't matter — we were there and that's all that mattered. Still remember vividly how nuts the place went when Kirby made his catch, and then when he hit the home run. Wow!!! Goose bumps!

High-fiving strangers on the street and even pedestrians as we were driving away and people were still walking to their cars. My arm was sore the next day from banging against the door frame.

For some reason, my family had decided that my dad and I were going to Game 6 and ma and sister were going to Game 7, still stupified as to how that happened. After Game 6, I was able to convince my dad to reneg on that arrangement, but when Sunday morning rolled around he totally caved, and I watched that game on TV like the rest of the world.

And then there was this year, when again I was fortunate to get my hands on some ALDS tickets.

........ I want my money back this year. LOL

When I was 26, In game 5 of the NLCS My brother (KOJAK), sister and one of our friends saw Jeff Weaver at the New Busch Stadium pitch a gem to put the Cardinals up 3-2 in a best of 7 series, My brother said it wasnt over yet. We saved the best for last in the top of the 9th inning with Yadier Molina up at the plate and Scott Rolen on first base we saw a ball go over Endy Chavez for a 3-1 lead in the game. Then Adam Wainright struck out Carlos Beltran with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning to send the Cardinals into the world series. For all the critics that doubted the Cardinals ...well you can go fuck yourselves. Go Cards!!!!

Well Kojak pretty much nailed it for me, the Birds in 82' and then the 85' series against the Dodgers with Clark and Ozzie and Jack Buck. Just a great era with Whitey and I listened to so many games hearing Vince getting on, swiping a bag or a double steal with Willie, damn that team was so strong.
