This was one of the biggest bets of my life.

I had chosen Chilean league leader Colo Colo to win over Brasilian league team Gimnasia who was about in the middle of the league. Colo Colo had been winning by outlandish margins previously. They were up 4-1 until the 87th minute when someone threw a rock at a player. The match was suspended. Rules state that if a match is suspended and not replayed within 24 hours the bet is voided.

I also had the over 2.5 goals but I believe that bet will stand. I'm so numb right now I can't even get mad.

Thanks for the support guys.

These rules just encourage fan misbehavior. The books had taken a beating with this bet it was so obvious. Why not just plan a mole and throw a rock if the match was on its way to losing.

I vaguely remember the UNLV power pole. What was that about? Didn't someone run into a power pole who had a losing bet? Was the guy related to a coach or something.

I don't think anything was ever proven about the UNLV power pole stunt, but being UNLV, it's just one of those things that becomes legendary (but I recall it being pretty damn fishy looking).

UNLV was playing Wisconsin a few years ago. The whole town was overrun with Badger fans because it was an easier ticket than Camp Randall.
Every square had money on the Badgers driving the line up on them. This was during either the Jeff Horton or John Robinson era when the Rebels sucked (yeah, yeah they always sucked but they did have a few good years).
Anyway, Wisky took the Rebels to the woodshed but with around 6 minutes remaining the power went out in the stadium. Vegas rules state the game has to go 55 minutes to be official and it did not quite get there. Therefore, it was a refund. Somehow an urban legend grew that the sportsbooks knocked the power out to avoid paying the bets on Wisconsin.
Interestingly enough, earlier this year that rule almost came into play again. Texas was playing Iowa St. (correct me if I'm wrong here) and the game was delayed for a long period after the 3rd quarter. They finally finished the game with a running clock in the 4th but there was no TV coverage and some outlets wrongly reported the game was called after 3. A few bettors came up demanding a refund, but they were misinformed.

QL, sorry for the loss. Shake it off and keep picking winners.:103631605

Thanks for the recap GD. I thought I remembered that it was a relative of the coach who drove into the power pole but I could be wrong.

Oh yeah, these 2 teams play one week from tonight for the 2nd leg of this series. For those thinking that Colo Colo will sit back on their 3-goal lead, they beat Alajuelense 7-2 at home in the 1st match of this tournament and came back to win 4-0 in the 2nd. Set your reminders for next Thursday.
