yep, story just broke and that is a HUGE blow to San Diego. I think they'll whether the storm while he's out but he's their catlyst on Defense much like Ray Ray in Balt. Gonna be tough the next 4 weeks though, the Chargers will definitely miss his energy.

Maybe that is why he is a stud.

What a moron for getting caught and what bullshit for the NFL to "not allow" them.

Chargers | Merriman will be suspended four games
Sun, 22 Oct 2006 19:09:27 -0700
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/9">ESPN.com reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman has been notified by the NFL he will be suspended four games for violating the league's steroids policy, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. A source with knowledge of Merriman's situation said the positive test was "definitely for steroids…not one of those supplement deals." Merriman's suspension originally was to be announced Tuesday, Oct. 17, but he reserved the right to appeal his suspension which delayed the announcement.

First Foley gets shot, Kieil gets arrested, Igor gets knee surgery, Phillips (sack leader) out 4-6 with a calf, and now this. Not really a surprise. If you've ever stood next to Merriman, you can't help but be suspicious. He was actually caught last week and quietly went through the appeals process. Chargers season going down the tubes. This sucks!

No wonder he is able to train like such a maniac. He was in an intense boxing program all offseason. How could he be so foolish to get caught?

Merriman and Williams are the guts of that defense...

This is a crushing blow.

At least they have STL and CLE at home the next two weeks. Should easily win both of those games.

But at CIN and DEN...the DEN game will be a huge...and without Merriman alot harder now.

Was hoping Merriman would knock out a Bronco in that game...a little payback for Brees last year.

I'm curious to see the spin the chargers put on this, any guess as to what type of "explanation" they come out with?

What are you talking about? Nobody ever said merriman is a saint. You are comparing college ball to the pros? USC acts like their shit doesn't stink and like they are aboveboard. Bush uses every chance he gets to talk about his community service as if he is some do-gooder and to take attention of his little scandal. Merriman has already been punished worse than Bush ever will. Pete Carroll has absolutely no control of thugSC

This was an obvious one waiting to happen. The guy gained 20 something pounds of muscle because of "NFL training" from the combine until the regular season last year. We all should know what that means because the guy was supposedly a gym rat already.

I agree that Urlacher could be next...

Have to believe there are many others using steroids and HGH that have not been caught...

That Carolina Panther story was never as mainstream as baseball's problems...seemed like the NFL wanted to sweep that under the rug.

Now they are in the limelight with one of the league's best defensive players.

By the way, since you brought Bush up, how about testing his blood? Dude got a little too ripped a little too fast.

They do test his blood meathead, supposedly the NFL tests everyone remember? Only the dipshits that don't know how to clear their system get caught.

Too bad the Chargers couldn't bring Pete in right now, get some solid coaching, especially on defense. That was pathetic today. My son could coach this team to a better record than they have right now, but then, they really haven't beat anyone all year so that's not saying much. Pete would have this team at 6-0 right now, can't wait for the chargers to move to LA and hire him!

keep dreaming. AJ Smith calls the shots and he would NEVER hire a buffoon like Carroll. He will have his pick of the litter after this yr and rest assured Carroll will not be on the short list. Get some solid coaching on defense? So you think Carroll is a better defensive coach than Wade Phillips? Not even in the same stratosphere. Against the one team he played with equal talent, Carroll showed how unprepared he was letting Vince Young single-handedly run circles around his D and making no adjustments. Charlie Weiss made Carroll look foolish last yr. USC had TONS more talent and was outcoached. When Carroll's teams play teams with equal or better talent, he doesn't stand a chance. By the way, give me OSU and the points this week. Watch good ol Mike Riley and the pathetic Beavers give USC a fight

After the league gave the Chargers the finger with last season's BS schedule...

The Bolts deserved a bit of a break this year.

I just never thought Merriman would get in trouble with 'roids before Luis did...unreal.

The offense didn't do the defense any favors today with the turnovers...

The Chargers set the Chefs up for 14 points...IF Rivers does not do that...well everyone here could do the math.
