At most smaller harness tracks $200 will guarantee the horse in question runs off the board..At the meadowlands $500-$1000 is the going rate...At NYRA tracks $500 will work in the lower class claimer ranks up to $2000 for a favorite to be "out".....Of course this is between the insiders..trainers ,owners.etc....and kept hush...Fact not fiction....sad but true..business is business..$$ talks...bull...walks....sorry to burst your bubble guys.... horse racing is the most fixed "sport" in the USA next to wrestling....

Horse racing is the ultimate insiders game. It began as a betting game, thus guaranteeing that every angle, legal and otherwise, will be employed to get a hoof up on the game. Joints - buzzers to the average fan - are more common then generally supposed. But don't expect to read about it in the Raciing Form..

I don't know if your figures are correct re a "pull" - it sounds low for the NYRA tracks, where if you know a fave is being stiffed you can clean up on the exotics by dutching out the fave.

Whatever, the game certainly is far from clean. And the mutuel take is brutal. The tracks should also own the Form, and distribute it free or at a very nominal cost.

Still, handicapping can be fun for some; too bad the game was born bad, and bad it will forever be.

Still rather be at the track than any pro game except baseball...being at the track and mingling with others in conversation about horses is great...been to about 80 per cent of all major tracks and some small ones like Charlestown.

You just have to be on the right side of the fix...just look for overdressed owners and trainers and oversized family and friends in the paddock area...and maybe an overdressed groom....LOL

top trainers and drivers in sport barred

when the TOP TRAINERS and TOP DRIVERS in the sport get BARRED you have a problem....all public record..The Feds try to keep it hushed as the US rakes in hundreds of millions from pari mutuel taxes annually...The sport is a fkn joke..It is all chemical warfare..Most of the retired horses end up in Texas or Illinois at the slaughter houses..A few survive...very few...dirty brutal game..so many break downs they have had no alternative to go to a new surface..the "poly track"...virtually impossible to handicap as the best horses with speed drop dead in the stretch....Good luck..I enjoy racing but it is a mess..with birbery now rampant with the simulcast and syndicates manipulating the pools daily...

at los alamitos the mexican killers come in and buy 3 or 4 at a time for about 300 each it is sad part of racing the aftermath u might say.........fixing been goin on racing forever and always will like i said it evens out if you do you work and pay attention...........harness racing gets more of a black eye than does thoros because of public perception of the sportand well publicized cheating by leading harness driver of all time herve fillion....i used to bet harness at los al in the eighties knew many drivers and for as little as buying them lunch they would dump one for ya that night.....but still my favorite thing to do in the world bet horses

Horse racing has been crooked since the dawn of time, and with the advent, and success of Betfair, it is becoming an even greater problem ( if thats possible ). Now instead of having to go to the trouble of being somewhat discreet with your betting and playing exotics or betting across the board and omitting the horses whose jockeys/drivers have been got at, you can just bet against any horse directly on Betfair.

It has become a huge problem in the UK and Australia in the past two years. Six time leading Irish jockey, Keiran Fallon is currently banned from riding in the UK while under suspension and being charged with allegedly defrauding Betfair with numerous suspicious rides. Whilst many jockeys and trainers in Australia have been put under the microscope recently by officials due to race results that have had very questionable and suspicious betting activity.

Basically you are asking for trouble with any sport if you are entrusting your hard earned money with/in people who have left school at 12 years of age, and where the industry wages are so low and widely disparate.
