Hypothetically, if Cards go up 3-1 in this series, and considering how poorly Verlander pitched in Game 1, does Leyland have the balls to pitch Rogers in Game 5 in STL? I for one says no considering reception he would be receiving from STL fans but also the fact he would have to bat brings up an entire different issue. Anyway, would love to hear others thought in discussion form.

Good point.

But the forecast is not good in STL for Game 4. Rain...Rain...and More Rain.

If they play Game 4 Thursday and 5 Friday...could be some rotation changes with no off day.

I agree. No way Leyland could do that. Rogers has had more than one incident that the cards fans would give him hell about. Plus he wouldn't be able to get as pumped up on the road... I think he would get rocked if he did start the game in STL...

Right now at Paddio's outside Busch III...

You can "Pin-the-Pine-Tar-on-the-jackass"...They have a life sized poster of Rogers.

If you get it on his left hand...you win a prize.

They are also giving away tickets to the game tonight...

Here is an easy prediction..."Cardinal Nation" is going to make Rogers very aware that he is not in Detroit when they introduce him tonight...can hear the boo's already.

I also saw somewhere before the WS that Leyland said, "We wanted to give Rogers two home starts..." [in explaining why he set up the WS starting pitching rotation].

So regardless of a rained out game, seems like Rogers will not throw in StL at all as Game 6 is all his for the taking (if there's a Game 6).

good topic kojak, i feel he does start rogers in that situation. in an elimination game he will go with the hot pitcher. as far as the crowd and him batting he wont concern himself with that imo. rogers being a veteran and all he might be better suited to pitch in that situation. with his fiery deameamor he might be what the tigers need if they are down 3-1.
just my thoughts. best of luck to you.:toast:

In hindsight, Leyland must have known how heavily Rogers was gonna get heckled in StL if he had pitched a game over there. Heh.

Also, if somebody can confirm, if I remember right, Cards tried to trade for Rogers few years back but he used his no trade clause cause he did not want to pitch in STL similar to David Wells minus the extra comments. If I was Leyland, I would pitch him if he is your best starter and on road in elimination game. I think he would have done it minus game 2 antics but now I say no. The question I would have for Tigers fans, if Cards did go up 3-1, and say Leyland did not pitch him in Game 5 with series on line, would you be pissed at Leyland?

Good question you came up with, Kojak. Hmm, a disclaimer on my part, I did not follow Tigers much prior to the ALDS but they impressed the heck out of me against my-hated Yankees. Having said that, I'd look to see how Rogers have fared on short rest of 3 days between starts. To that point, I don't know and I think Leyland would get flack whether he *does* or *doesn't* start Rogers in Game 5 with Tigers down 3-1 games anyway.

if i was a tiger fan (i am not ) i would be highly upset if he did not pitch game 5. he has been lights out the whole playoffs and he should be out there with the season on the line. at that point you can only think about one game and thats it. as we speak now he is pitching the best of anyone.

Hell yeah he pitches him 'cause Leyland has balls unlike La Russa, or Mcguire or Pujols(steroids) for that matter.

Kenny could pitch naked in front of all the St. Louis crybaby's, and two hit 'em.:nopityA:
Hell. the '68 Tigers are on TV laughing about the whoopin they put on the Red birds back then.

If they were down 3-1, which I don't feel they will be, who knows if Leyland has the "balls" to pitch Kenny?? My guess, since Leyland has big balls....yes!! Why not?? He's on a roll, so why not go with the best you got for a chance to extend the series? In this case, either win or go home until next year.

Actually I saw a quote from Rogers yesterday that said he always wanted to play for the Cardinals, it just never worked out. If the opportunity presented itself, I would think they have to pitch Rogers. I mean sure, they would prefer to have him pitch in Detroit but unless the Tigers can win one here in St. Louis there will be no World Series game in Detroit.
