My wife and I are planning a trip out West. It'll be our first time skiing, and was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a ski lodge in Utah.
Thanks

If you and your wife are first time skiers you will want to stay away from Alta and Snowbird since these areas cater to experienced skiers.

Brighton and Solitude are great areas for beginers and offer some good deals for housing and skiing.

Park City and Deer Valley are great resorts but very expensive and crowed at times.

I grew up in the SLC, so I'm very familiar with the area's ski resorts. As the previous poster suggested, both Brighton and Solitude are great for beginners but also offer terrain for more advanced skiiers. They're also great for snowboarders. Snowbird *does* have some of the best expert terrain in the area, but they've also got some nice intermediate and easier terrain IMO. After learning to stand up on skis at the Brighton, I honed whatever skills I had acquired on the Gad Valley trails at Snowbird. Snowbird also has the best lodging ammenities outside of the Park City area.....the previous poster was correct that the Park City area will be more expensive than the Cottonwood Canyon resorts listed above, but for ski town ambiance it can't be beat.

Were it me, I'd consider staying down in the city--this would give you the most skiing options and there's tons of good places to eat in Salt Lake. You'd probably also save some money on the lodging. Keep in mind that from downtown SLC you're right around 30 minutes from any of the aforementioned resorts.....

If you go, make sure to at least take a day trip to Park City--just a great ski town. If you have a little extra cash to spend, try to get some dinner reservations at Chez Betty which is IMO one of the two or three best restaurants in the state. Haven't been there in a few years but it ranks up there among my best all time dining experiences

Thanks for the input. I think I'll try out your suggestions, and stay downtown and drive up. Have you tried out Brian Head? That seems like an option too because it's closer to McCarren. What should I take with me as far as clothing, and is it fairly affordable to rent the ski gear, and what all comes with it? Hopefully a coat or do I have to buy one, and visor and all that?

Brian Head and Elk Meadows have some decent skiing and are reasonably priced but offer zero night life, once the skiing is done for the day there isn't much to do at all.

Oh ok. I definitely don't just want to ski, I wanna go out as well. Probably will go to Brighton and stay in SLC.

Brian Head is in southern Utah near Cedar City. It's downright beautiful there--just north of Zion's National Park--but not exactly an area known for its nightlife.....

Post again before you go and I'll give you some recommendations of places to eat and go out in SLC...

Definitely check out an Italian place called "Tuscany" which is co-owned by former Utah Jazz center Mark Eaton....

If you're truly an absolute hot shot skier, I don't think any place can compare with Jackson Hole. Good place to die if you're not careful.

Jackson Hole sounds creepy. Is that a real name? LOL. I'm a beginner skier. Wonder what mountain that was where Sonny died?
