NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 24 -- The NFL rescheduled its first game under its new flexible-scheduling plan, moving a Nov. 12 game between the Chicago Bears and New York Giants at Giants Stadium to 8:15 p.m.

It had been scheduled to be played at 1 that afternoon. The plan is designed to ensure that NBC gets attractive late-season games to televise in its Sunday night time slot.

The Bears-Giants game previously was to be carried by Fox. Under the plan, games must be moved at least 12 days in advance. The matchup is particularly attractive because the Bears could be unbeaten heading into the game.

The league also announced that the New Orleans at Pittsburgh game on the same day has been moved from 1 to 4:15 p.m. on Fox.

The Chicago Bears ' game against the New York Giants at the Meadowlands on Nov. 12 was switched Tuesday by the NFL from an afternoon to a night game, the first under the flexible scheduling format implemented in the new television contract.

<!-- MOD: info_genericpromo - 125627 -->

The 8:15PM ET game will be televised by NBC instead of Fox. Under the format, the Sunday night time slot had been left vacant, with CBS and Fox each allowed to protect five afternoon games over seven weeks of the season. Each has chosen four and will pick one more.

Chicago (6-0) is one of two unbeaten teams in the NFL and will be favored to be 8-0 when it goes to Giants Stadium. The Bears' next two games are at home against San Francisco (2-4) and Miami (1-6).

The Giants (4-2) have won three straight, including Monday night's 36-22 win in Dallas , and lead the NFC East. Their next two games are at home against Tampa Bay and Houston , both 2-4.

As part of the schedule shuffle, New Orleans ' game at Pittsburgh will be moved from a 1PM ET start to 4:15 on Fox.

They will announce next week which game has moved to Sunday Night For Week 11 under the flex plan teams are to be given at least 12 days notice if their game time is changed to Sunday night. And only 6 day notice for Week 17 .

NFL Flexible Scheduling 101

  • Begins Sunday, November 12, 2006 (Week 10)
  • In effect Weeks 10-15 and Week 17.
  • Not in effect Week 16 due to holiday weekend.
  • Only Sunday afternoon games in Weeks 10-15 and 17 are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
  • The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
  • The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce on 12 days notice the game being moved to 8:15 p.m. ET and may also announce games moving to 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
  • The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list teams as "TBD."
  • Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
  • NFL schedules all games.
  • CBS and FOX each get to protect a total of 5 games in the 7 weeks of flexible scheduling, but not more than one game in any week.
  • Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.

I'm glad I didn't buy tickets to the Saints/Steelers game like I originally planned. A 4:15 start wouldn't have me home until really really late!

Has this always been in existence? Flex scheduling? Or have I just been under a rock?

I guess he thinks im an O's fan. Hes refering to my thread where I predicted that the O's would win the AL EAST:cryingcry

This would be one of those predictions that I got wrong.

Not an O's fan in the least.

Just like to bust balls once in awhile....but I know Choptalk can take it because he also likes to give it out also....I enjoy Chop's baseball comments and selections, can be very informative at times....sharp poster but I hope he loses his Stallworth bet, I'm a huge Eagle fan....
