Earlier this week we had a discussion on Vietnamese food. My next assignment takes me to Cambridge, Mass. I'll be there until the 1st of next year. So being the food connoisseur that I am, I will be looking for good restaurants.

I was there in 2000 and I ate at the Union Oyster House. They had the best clam chowder I've ever tasted. I also had little neck clams.

Before it was a restaurant it was the place where George Washington paid his troops. John Kennedy had his own booth there.

Here is their dinner menu:

Any other suggestions?

Oh, nevermind about Jimmy's it's closed for renovations

Kind of like closing down the Boston Garden for the Fleet Center

"Editor's Note: Jimmy's Harborside is closed for renovations and will reopen Spring 2008.

It's said that sharks need to keep moving to stay alive, but the opposite formula applies to seafood institutions like Jimmy's Harborside. With its nautical murals and dated decor, this old-school establishment boasts the same salty vibe it was mining when Sinatra topped the charts. The interior is eclipsed by its stunning views of the Harbor and city skyline, which can be enjoyed from the deck in more temperate months. Even the ownership has remained static over the last several decades, with a third generation of the founding Doulos family recently emerging to take the helm.

Though some dismiss it as an overrated tourist trap, Jimmy's keeps its clientele coming back by adhering to the basics that made its name back in the 1930s. Its claim to the title "Home of the Chowder King" is backed up by bountiful chowders featuring "creamy fish" and "New England style" clams, while those with a craving for fresh-off-the-boat seafood will find simply prepared options including scrod, Atlantic salmon, deep sea scallops and swordfish. The dish for which Jimmy's is justifiably famous is its finnan haddie, a traditional smoked salmon that is baked to perfection and set afloat in a sea of white wine cream sauce. -- Julia Clinger (Photo: C. If you like barbecue, there is a really cool place in sommerville called redbones.Very casual, but great food. Let your server pick your food the first time you go, great prices and beer selection too. You can take the T, it is one or 2 stops from cambridge.

Red Bones is a really well known place for BBQ and considered one of the best around. And yes - not far from Cambridge at all.

One of the guys from my company that I'll be meeting there is a BBQ connoisseur like me. He gave me several suggestions for good BBQ in Memphis when I was there. I'll be sure to ask him about Redbones.

Thanks for the tip.
