Just had a chance to listen to some post game interviews and the one that struck me the funniest was Justin Verlanders. When asked about Game 5, his response was something like.....This is only a job. It is only a game.....Are you kidding me? My friend you are in the WS and need to help your team and that is the attitude you are taking in. Tigers would have a better chance if Rogers pitched in STL as obviously this guy does not have the mental toughness to win a game the Tigers desperately need in what I promise to be a very hostile rowdy crowd tomorrow night! Unbelievable!

He's not pitching for his life tomorrow or anything. Maybe he's just trying to take the pressure off of himself, and to do that, he has to think of being 10 years old again, and just go play. Don't matter, cause the 25 star lock won't lose!:toast:

He beat the Yankees in Game 2 of Division series in New York. I know this is a little different, but it would be Weaver I would be worried about.

It's called taking the pressure off of yourself in the biggest game of one's career. Not that hard to figure out.

KOJAK....I know your team is on the verge of ending a long WS winning streak, but comeon man....give the kid a break he just wants to take the pressure off........He knows that the Cards are in the driver seat and that this is do or die for his team.....he will come ready to pitch and so will Weaver....Should be a great game and if the Tiger pitchers don't throw the ball into the stands they may actualy win a game LOL

latti,
Here is the point as to why I posted this. As a player and now a manager for several years, when my teams have a big game, I want my players to embrace the pressure not act like it is no big deal. Yes, Veralander should not come out and say something stupid in the press, but the fact is big time players show up in big time games. They want the ball in their hand. Just like MJ,Montana,Elway,Schilling, etc. It would be like Pujols coming up with game on the line and thinking I just want to not screw up. Winners put it all on the line regardless if they win or lose. They are not afraid of failing. Verlander will give his best effort tonight but I believe based on these comments it shows his mental makeup. What that is someone who is a young player and is apprehensive about the situation he is facing tonight and someone who internally and externally is not showing very much confidence. He may go out and throw the 2nd perfect game in WS history and I will be the first to say I was wrong, but I don't think so. I have been around the game too long and feel Verlander is not ready for this situation tonight.

jman,
You need to seperate fact from fiction. Verlander said these comments. The fact that you call it bs and obnoxious is not fair as I did not say them. Based on comments, games, situations, whatever, we are going to have differing opinions on our takes. That is what makes RX great is to have differing opinions, right or wrong or otherwise. Do I think Verlander think it is just another game. I would hope not. But the fact is you play baseball for the love of the game and your passion. To say it is just a job which in reality means he is playing for a paycheck should not strike you well. I thought you were a baseball purist. You claim to be old school. If you do not like Cards that is your personal choice. If you do not like Cards because of my statements and feelings about them, that shows you don't like Cards because of me which means you don't care for me. The thing I find funny about whole situation is even as a mod, you posted a thread in offshore not even in rr about trying to start bashing on me just the other day. All I know is when you had your issues in the past, I stood up for you blindly and supported you. I am not asking for your support but things keep becoming more obvious to me about you by the day. BOL and hope next year your Orioles win for your sake.

How was I bashing you, you reported what Joe Buck said, which in turn was false and I found the report hilarious and far fetched...Moderators have opinions too....You would pick the Cardinals either way...I recall 2004 when you claimed they would win the WS then disappeared after bing swept, then I read recenmtly where you said you never said the Cardinals were going to win....ok whatever, quit acting like an adverse post by ANYONE in your thread or about your team means myself or another poster doesn't like you.

You wanted me to delete my thread because I quoted what you said the other day? funny.

You make outlandish grandstanding style posts and remarks yet can't handle it when it comes back on you...I give you credit when you are right.

jman,

For the record, lets get the facts straight.

First regarding 04, why don't you go back and look it up for yourself if archives go back that far. I said Cards would go to WS did not say they would win it. If I need to go find it I will but may take several hours. Maybe you would know shortcut.

Second, regarding thread you put in offshore, I came on and said I was researching it based on what my brother had told me.was said. I came back and said I found nothing to the contrary.

Third, I Imed you after seeing the thread, I asked you if you and I had some issues. You said no and then YOU NOT I said you would take it down. I never asked you to take it down. You did not take it down so I sent message to WIL.

Fact of it is Jman, I don't think you are very honest and objective and find for a mod to start a bash thread in offshore on something that was not a quote out of my mouth, something I had heard, and when I came back after researching it and said I found nothing, does not show good judgement on your part. In fact I am thinking back to some of the conversations we had back in March and before on IM.

This will be the last I have to say on the subject with you.

KOJAK......I am going to congrdulate you on being a GREAT Cards fan... and if they win the WS...I will congradulate you again, BUT BUT BUT you really have to stop all this BS about Verlander....I am also like JMAN as I was rooting against the Tigers, because as a met fan I wanted the team that beat my team to win the WS......BUT I will be pulling for the Tigers to take this back to Det....and then we can see a good series........No slips in the outfiled or errors by pitchers....just striaght up good baseball.....Just the way your Manager would want it....larussa by the way....I can't stand him....

Why you took it personally in the first place is starnge....YOu made the post, then sent me an IM wondering what I had against you, ridiculous to even think I had something against you because I quoted your post?

I was dumfounded by what you reported that was all...quit being so sensitive and dramatic.

Kenny Rogers shuts out STL in gm 2 and you made a huge issue out of that too, how he cheated etc.

latti..Appreciate it and as you can tell from my last statement of last post, bs is over. BOL

jman....Strange...I am not going to continue the bs and take the high road but I find a lot of things strange about your actions and looking back strange. I am not going to talk about it with you in a public forum but if you want to discuss it, you know how to get a hold of me. Sensitive. I have to say I am sensitive especially when things are being told a certain way that is not the way it is. I don't care for people's actions that go out and put twists on things. If I make a mistake, I am always the first to say I am wrong and apoligize. Do you? I am going to enjoy the rest of my day cause like I said this is over but I wonder how sensitive you would be if someone goes out here on RX and makes statements that you feel not to be fair regarding you. I think we both already know how sensitive you were in the past. BOL and feel we need to squash this before we get out of hand.

Hey Kojak, how confident would you be if the Cards found a way to lose tonight against Verlander and then having to go back to Detroit for two more games? Does the Cards history in the series after having 3-1 leads concern you? I'm thinking the Cards better finish it off tonight, or else. History could very well repeat itself once again.

I to find it odd for you to start a thread in regards to Verlanders comments, especially with the headline you used, who cares for gods sakes, this makes you come off like a sore winner really, he is asked a tough question right after a very dissapointing loss, what did you expect him to say? Give the kid some slack I am sure he just wanted the interview over so he could prepare for the biggest game of his young career, what he said I am sure were not his true thoughts or emotions in regards to the next game.

That being said congrats so far for you and your team, not my first choice to win the WSeries (check my username) but my choice since my team SUCKS and my second fav. player (Pujols) playes for them.
