I have never been on a cruise before but my buddy convinced me to go on the carnival glory for a carribean cruise. I am a big fan of fine dining and from what I hear the food is amazing. Am looking forward to that.

Otherwise I am sure it will be a week full of many drinks and other debauchery. There is a casino onboard....hopefully with a pokerroom. Anyone have any suggestions about what to do and/or other general comments?

Yeah the booze are gonna get us. My friend went last year and spent $800 on booze alone. However, the food is all included except for the best restaurant which is an extra $25 for dinner if you choose to eat there.

Food is FREE so you dont get raped there at all....

you can bring a bottle in your luggage to avoid getting raped on booze....

if you want to pay its about 5$ a drink

all inclusive is the only way to go.

Thanks for pointing out that thread SS - doesn't look like Carnival gets many positive remarks. However we are all 25-28 guys who are going so we don't mind being on the "party" cruise.

If you find some minors, you can make a lot of money buying booze for them on the ships. I wouldn't try it if you're old, though. I made about $500 doing that last cruise.

Another question for you guys - is seasickness ever an issue? I assume ships of this size don't present too much of a problem, but are there any tips to avoid feeling ill?

on the princess some people wore tiny nicotine type patches under their ears that preventes sea sickness..... we left from ny and the waters were rougher up there

Yes the patches work - they put dremamine into your system and will last for 2 or 3 days. Personally I use them for the first couple of days, but beyond that I start getting sides (other than being happy) and move to ginger root.

Unfortunately the same part of your nervous system that controls your gag reflex controls muscles in your eye that are required to focus on things up close. I would also warn you away from them if you have any kind of macular degeneration - I know several people whose eyesight took a dramatic turn for the worse while on them and never came back.

The patches are outdated. Have your Dr write you an Rx for transdermal scapolomine. This is a cream that you apply and works GREAT!

Carnival is good for you noisy party guys, more mature cruisers (I'm 63) prefer Princess and Royal Carribean.

Depends mostly on the individual. I've only ever once had a problem, on a rough English Channel ferry crossing when they brought out the bowls and 90% were unwell. The big ships barely move in the Carribean. If you are susceptible I suggest wrist bands that are worn on wrist accupressure points. My wife uses them. They have the advantage of a non drug solution and never get used up. Best worn before feeling unwell. If you can't get any from a travel store they might have some on the ship. Also don't drink too much or it won't be seasickness. :toast:

SS had the right idea to take booze onboard at the original boarding, since you cannot get any except the ship's expensive stuff. The duty free in the stores is held until you disembark.

Almost no chance of a poker room. The casino will offer standard games at terrible odds (you're not going next door after all). Should be plenty of onboard entertainment and optional trips you can buy at ports of call, snokelling, scuba diving, jet skis etc.

Have a great time!

Just came back from a trip on the Carnival Pride, they had a poker room. I saw one game being spread, 5-10. As with most ships, the slots and table games are bad.

I went on the 3 day to the Bahamas from Cape Canaveral. It was a floating WAL-MART based on all things involved. :puppy:

They play 3-6 holdem with one table and a $5 rake, long waits on my cruise. True nofoldem holdem. Try the ruebens in the deli.
