In my entire career as a sports fan, I've never met anyone who likes Notre Dame.

Yea I said 'career' ...seriously though, who likes the Notre Dame Fighting Irish?

Obviously someone does, they are the only NCAA football team that has their own network TV deal .

So who out in Rx land is a fan of the Mighty Irish?

You love em or hate em. I do not like em but unlike a lot of people have a lot of respect for Lou Holtz when he was there. Great coach. Also Charlie Weiss coached here for years and like him too. But all in all hate ND.

I really am curious who likes the Irish....they seem to be universally hated , similar to the Yankees, the Yankees do have a strong fan base outside NYC though.

I don't really hate them anymore...I use to not like them because I could never figure them out.

I am a big fan of Notre Dame, goes back to my being brought up Catholic and being around adults that were ND fans. Stuck with me all these years.

My family is Irish and Catholic. I am the only one who is not really a big fan of ND, although I do respect Coach Weis a lot. Sister and brother-in-law both went to ND, and father is sickeningly obsessed with them.

Having gone to a few games with them (lots of ND-Navy games, seems I was always pulling for the underdog Middies), I can tell you there fan base is largely white Catholics. They go to mass en mass, and you wouldn't believe the amount of private Catholic schools there are in some parts of the country. Just about every kid wants to go to ND.

Saw them play in Dublin, Ireland when I was about 8 or 9 v Navy. Been a fan ever since. (btw I thought what I was watching was American Rugby, similar to Aussie rules for about 5 years).

haha you are correct billsfan...
been a diehard fan all my life, now a student there for a few more months.

immediate family have all become fans as well, once you take in a game at Notre Dame Stadium and tour the campus, it's hard not to like the place...

Sister Mary Penguin was not just in the Blues Brothers. I grew up in the pedophile system before I put my foot down (4th grade). What an absolute bitch....I thought I had already gone to hell.

Knowing what I know now, sounds like I got out with just a couple years to spare before getting my nuggets juggled.

Screw ND, screw NBC for starting the "every one of their games on tv" crap, and screw the pervs running the church.

If you grew up Irish Catholic--or just plain Catholic--in the Northeast in the seventies, the only college football team you know is Notre Dame, as they were one of the two college games that might be on TV on a particular Saturday. Boston College was irrelevant until the Flutie era in the mid-80's. (College football really isn't that big in the Northeast anyway.)

I grew up an ND fan, but didn't really jump on the bandwagon until the '88 national championship run. I was dating my (now) wife at the time and she had gone to high school with ND's quarterback at the time, Tony Rice.

Since then, I must be living in the opposite world as the J-man. I can't get away from Notre Dame fans. I've had three roommates/officemates during my time in the Navy that were ND grads and I've had ND grads for neighbors. Both my boss and one of my direct reports are huge ND fans.
