Buy him the fucking car.. heres what could happen (im not kidding), he starts working for shit money at a pizzaria or whatever, then he realizes it will take him years to SAVE enough to buy a car that he wants SO, if he has any balls/and or initiative he will start selling his co-workers and friends weed with the money he earned on pizza deliveries as his seed $ in the weed op. He'll never go back to school and before you know it he's supplying coke to all his friends or stealing or something else. Buy the fuckn kid a car the only lesson you'll teach him is that its impossible to get ahead working shit retail jobs for others, your pushing him into the crime underworld be prepared to use your house as bail collataral, remeber what im saying, seen a hundred times, youre outta touch with reality and your Brad bunch method of lesson teaching is flawed, buy him the car and tell him the ONLY reason you bought it for him is so that he doesnt start seliing drugs and that you will be there for me as long as he is honest with you and avoids heading down the wrong path, got it?>

mrd, everyone is different, but I would buy him a car now. I would buy him a responsible and still yet nifty car (as you can afford right now.)

You don't need to buy him the newest mustang or whatever, but you can find three choices that you like which provide three or four things 1.) a small bit of cool factor 2.) gas economy 3.) quality 4.) safety

You pick out three choices that YOU like and feel good about as a father and you let him decide among the three. That is just my opinion.

I, personally, would recommend the 2004 model below....

<TABLE class=sectionTable cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=sectionHeader>Description</TD></TR><TR><TD class=sectionText>You are bidding on a beautiful 2004 Honda Accord in a great gray exterior and black leather interior. This Accord comes as a four-door sedan and is the EX trim model. It comes with air conditioning, a height-adjustable driver seat, a CD player, cruise control and power windows, locks and mirrors. This top line EX models gets a bounty of features, including a power sunroof, alloy wheels and steering wheel-mounted stereo controls.
Driving the front wheels is a 160-horsepower, 2.4-liter inline four cylinder engine. Most buyers will be well served by the four-cylinder; it's smooth and quiet (like most Honda engines) and offers up enough power for nearly all situations. This four-cylinder engine is matched with a five-speed automatic transmission.
Safety is paramount in a family sedan and the Accord doesn't disappoint. In NHTSA crash testing, the Accord coupe and sedan received a perfect five stars for protection against frontal impacts. The Accord coupe has also been given five stars for side-impact crash protection. In IIHS testing, the Accord earned a "Good" rating (again, the best possible) for its performance in the 40-mph frontal offset crash test. Side airbags are either optional or standard.

Yeah, if you've got the jack buy him the car. Unless you live in NYC or a similar urban area a car is a necessity not only to look cool and pull chicks, but for most productive activities like school, work, etc. If the kid becomes a lazy bum after you get him the car, then you can pull it from him but like I said if you've got the money I'd hook him up with a sled...

The day my brother and I turned 16 and got our licenses, my dad was happier about it than we are...signified the end of his career as our choffeur (sp.). We were active as fuck in high school and he was constantly having to take us places and whatnot.

If your kid is even half as active as we were, I'd get him the car. It'll benefit YOU greatly.

He's 18 and hasn't had a job yet? Must be nice. I started working at 14 and bought my own car before I even had my licence.

I say make him get a job and buy his own car. Especially if he wants a better one than his friends.

obviously you should put the money for the car down on a lock in football this week, then buy him a nicer car.

Exactly! No more driving to practices, games, banquets, etc. Also, required me to take over more errands that required driving.

Exactly right. One of the good things about having kids is that they also serve as your slaves.

Get him a car and have him start getting groceries, pick up/drop off shit, etc. THat's what my parents did. Abuse your power as a parent and crack the whip while you still can.

An 04 Accord is pretty strong for a 1st car, well over 10k. How about something a little older, to give him something, and the desire to earn something better.

Something like Accord but 5+ years old, 100k mile type car that is decent and safe, unless price is not important.

you should beat your kid regardless if he's complaining about the type of car you want to buy him. dude's getting a car, who gives a shit what he's driving, it's a means of transporation, as long as it's dependable, then fuck it

the kid already wants his first car to be better than his friends car, can you say MTV generation, bling factor. The kid will be ballin with coke and weed within no time , until he gets the car he wants, do him a favor and if you know any dealers yur age that are really tight with their shit.. connect your son with that guy, he'll get in trouble by continously trying to better his connect when he wont realize their all in the same pool. Give him the car or a killer coke connect either one will save you much hassle and dough in the end, im dead serios

Outside of the beating, I agree with this. IMO, driving your own car as a teenage is a priviledge, not a right. Seems like that concept is already lost on him.

your right Doug, except that he will want to accelerate the amount of time it will take to upgrade and delivering pizzas wont get it dun fast enough, especially if hes smoking that hydro or purple haze, before too long he'll be tired of wasting his little pay on weed and he'll venture out to the hood to develope his connect to cut the throat of the guy tat him and all his friends see. He'll be smoking for free so hes saving money plus serving his boys so he'll be banking his entire pizza check, smoking free and after he re-ups he'll have money left over still for girls and clothes. That will be good enough for about two years until he starts selling coke to upgrade even faster than te first time, you'll know cuz he'll never ask you for a dime again, buy him the car before its too late, once he starts ballin you'll never turn him back even he does a stretch in the pen. I should be writing for good parenting magazine damn I got wisdom.. rather you have to be realsitic kids these days are emulating everything they see on tv and working hard for someone else wont get it done especially when so many people around tehm are balling and they got the bling, bitches and cars. Youre son is gonna be a baller, sorry bro.

Your number 1 concern in looking for a car for him should be safety. Don't even think about getting him a car without airbags.

Also realize that he WILL get into some sort of accident within his first year of driving by himself.

good luck :)

Get him a half assed junker. As goodcall said, he's bound to wreck it-it's just a matter of time. It's a right of passage.
