I haven't been around the Forum much in the last few days, and here's why...I Had Knee Surgery Last Friday.

I had been having right knee problems for about a year or so, and my family physician kept giving me Steriod Shots in it every friday for about 3 months. After telling him that the shots were only helping for a day or two, he finally quit with them, telling me that I needed an MRI and sent me to an Orthapedic Doctor. After reviewing the MRI, he said that I had PLICA, left over tissue, which had been there since I was a Fetus.
And he said all those shots are bad and could cause me to loss Bone Mass, and that Surgery was The Only Way To Get Out Of Pain!

Anyway, on Friday I went in for the surgery....
Prep Time was 2 1/2 Hours
Surgery was 30 Minutes
Post Opt was 30 Minutes

It went ok.........the doctor gave me some Vicodin and sent me home.
He said to keep it Elevated really high...on 5 or 6 pillows....Knee above Hip, Ankle above Knee. I had some pretty severe pains both friday and saturday night....felt like a Flaming Ball Of Fire.

Anyway....I started Physical Therapy Today. I'm still on crutches, and won't be doing much of anything for the next few weeks.

Anyone Every Had This Surgery, or Known Anyone That Has?

Thanks....MR. NEWLYWED

i work for an ambulatory surgery center that is all ortho...from feet to knees to shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers. one of the best post op tips is ice and elevation....as far as the ACL's....we have had to have a couple of repeat pts because they didnt do all their excersises right the first time...i am under the understanding that one of the excersises is to extend the knee completely straight. joey make sure u check to see if this is one of their excersises otherwise once it heals and u havent done the straiteners, it may be hard to get it to be able to straigten. dont know much about the reps and times a day, but i think this is something they teach in PT. see if they can give u a nerve block. this is given in pre op by the anesthesiologist. this will completely numb the leg and help with pain control for a few hrs after the surgery...long enough to get home and have a bite to eat then take the pills. GL!

good luck, i tore my acl playing football (flag football, dont want to sound like a real athlete) about 5 years ago. Surgery went well but my physical therapist sucked. My surgery was significantly shorter and less complicated than yours will be.

actually, to prove how much of a degenerate i am, i had the surgery a day or so after new years eve and insisted upon going home that night to watch a big bowl game instead of staying at the hospital and getting properly drugged.

I had reconstructive Knee surgery for a tearing my patella tendon .

If yours was minor arthroscopic surgery you'll be back in your feet in no time, first days the best is ice and elevation, ALL THE TIME, whatever exercises they give you, follow them, if you feel alright, even push it a little harder without over doing it.

My own personal advice, try to keep pain killers at the lowest, pain is the way your body tells you it's enough, listen to your body.

Hope you have a fast recovery, mine took a little more than a year, but i'm back in the basketball court now, sometimes rehab is a pain, but trust me man, if you really follow all the exercises, it'll pay off, if you don't, you'll still have a functional Knee, but you'll miss something.

Hey thanks for the advice. I am fully intent on following my PT to an absolute tee. I will not take any chances with this knee. I want to be back playing my the start of the fall season (late August) and take my recovery very seriously.

I used to deliver madical supplies to homes. I delivered so many of those damn knee machines it wasn't funny. I am sure the Doc will hook you up with one of those. They are easy to use and do the work for you. If you get one make sure they show you how it works when you are not stoned on painkillers. LOL I would have to go back the next day many times.

the big question to ask your doctor would have been,

will the surgery give you any improvement to your capping skills?

Hope you have a speedy recovery! :toast:
