To go and preorder it at a gaming store or any store for that matter. People have PS3 on ebay right now going to about 1700-2000+, they reserve it for 100 dollars and the system costs about 600. So in all, just for being one of the first ones to reserve it for the day it comes out, they are making about 1000 dollars.

Seems like a good freeplay:realtongu

Weird how this thread turned from a business venture to people camping in front of a store for a box of electronics.

I don't know how to make what I'm about to say not sound like something prissy and stuck up.

But if you're just now figuring out the $$$ to be made at this you've got a lot of catching up to do. The PS3 thing is weird even without the items in stores yet because only some of the lower key brand name stores have accepted preorders because nobody has a CLUE to how many units they are going to have shipped to them.

You may camp out in front of best buy for example, expect at least a 3-5 day camp out. I'm sure that's how long it's going to be in some of the more populated areas. Then you will have to contend with the idiots who show up that morning and try to cut in line - Best Buy sometimes doesn't care. There's the 2nd problem of employees buying all the preorders before the public. Some stores have restrictions on that, some don't.

There is TONS of information on the internet about it.

Will the next big name launch have this kind of money making potential? Nobody knows. The ONLY reason this is going for 3x the worth on eBay is that Sony has a vastly depleted and scarce # of units shipping on the 17th. That drives the demand WAY up therefore the price people are willing to buy it at, also increases.

Good luck.

Dr Pepper hit it right on the head. No one has any clue what they are getting. Even the big EB and GameStops. That's why they barely took any preorders. Those people aren't necessarily guaranteed anything. I have a feeling there's going to be a LOT of unhappy ebay'ers from both sides of the counter. I'm past the days of fighting those crowds to get a system. I'll just wait until December or maybe even 2007.

i would think if you camped out in front of Best Buys while they were open you would get sent packing for loitering. Imagine a 3 day campout in forn of a store that is open for business. :lolBIG:

I refuse to buy video game systems when they come out for this reason. It's bullshit that Sony/Xbox can't make enough units to meet demand at launch. Just a marketing tool to promote the system as the hot new thing that everyone wants and everyone must have. I'll wait til a year later for the price drop and by then you'd be able to hack the games anyway.

it doesnt make sense to me why they dont make more, I guess more demand for it but its not like the price will go down for about 1.5 years

It's because they compete with each other. The Xbox 360 wanted to beat everyone else to the market so they could have that extra edge, so they launched without enough systems. The Xbox 360 is out now, so Sony wants to get their system "launched" before they lose too much market share as people buy the Xbox 360 while they're waiting and decide to just stick with that. So again they lauch without enough systems.

And as usual Nintendo could care less, they'll launch another system late, not make enough games for it and wonder why they aren't winning the console wars.

Part of the reason that they dont ship out more units is because the Playstation3 is a new platform for Sony. They dont want to send out millions of units if there is a glitch in the operating system...so instead they send out a certain number just in case they have some kind of problem. Then they wont have a million people calling to complain...this is just my opinion.

It also doesn't hurt to have a million people wanting your new toy...they can keep sustained sales figues for about a year...just like X-Box did. Instead of having the sales hit their books in a 2-3 month span they can make it last a year.

Sony Warns of PlayStation 3 Scams

sony-playstation-3.jpg
Your P.S.A. for the week: Sony representatives have issued a consumer alert regarding a number of websites that have been illegitimately promoting discounted and/or bulk pre-orders of the soon-to-launch Sony PlayStation 3. Unfortunately Sony did not reveal site or company names, but they have encouraged those interested in purchasing the new PS3 to stick to authorized retailers, such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and GameStop/EB Games. Here is the official text from Sony:
It has come to the attention of Sony Computer Entertainment America that a number of websites are currently promoting pre-order offers on discounted or bulk shipments of the upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. Such offers are not done with any cooperation from SCEA or its parent company. SCEA strongly recommends against consumers pursuing such offers, as their legitimacy cannot be confirmed. We recommend consumers purchased PlayStation products only from authorized SCEA retailers and resellers.
So, as usual, let the buyer beware. With the high PS3 MSRP of $500-$600, and expected launch supplies of the console dropping, it may have created a perfect storm for scams and $1,500 sales on EBay.

Also I read that Gamestop and EB Games are cracking down on people who pre-ordered the system to them and are now selling them on Ebay.

Ebay is requiring all people selling their system show a picture of their receipt. The stores are gathering which auction has a receipt for their store and a list is being sent out all over. Then the store will cancel the pre-order

but that doesn't stop someone from selling it on launch day.

i worked at best buy when PS2 came out...employees were taken care of first (limited to one)....then a couple weeks later when next shipment came in, we phoned our friends and told them who to see to get a PS2...public saw about 5-10 PS2s in the first month whereas employees, family, and friends got all the other ones. Many stores I'm sure are the same.
