A leading US lawyer has warned there could be further online gaming arrests in the US.
John Baughman, partner and gambling expert at New York legal firm Paul Weiss, said that in the wake of the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act poker sites would now also be in the firing line.

“The government is in favour of bringing more prosecutions. I am confident there are more investigations going on. The prosecutors are seeing if they can bring more cases. Poker sites are on that wish list.”

Baughman was speaking after the international summit on online gaming held in the UK this week. In comparison with the aims of the summit, Baughman suggested the US was heading the other way. “There is no pressure for legalising and regulating online gaming in the US,” he said.

Baughman doubted that any momentum towards regulation in the rest of the world would change any minds in the US. “The only thing that would change the situation would be a change of attitude in the US,” he said. “There are two ways this might happen. One, if someone who was powerful decided it was a source of tax revenue. And two, if there was a big fraud, if a site lost everyone’s money and a lot of people were injured. That could wake up the regulation issue.”

Hasn't Mr. Baughman heard of BOS? I swear to God the powers that be have their heads in the sand. They have no clue that the American Public loves to gamble. Is it any wonder most of us feel so alienated from our government?
