The portable portion of it really isn't good for LIVE stuff unless its docked in your car or at home, the signal is too hard to get. The portable part of it is good for the 6 hours of recorded stuff you can listen to.

6 hours of recording? Are you sure you're talking about the XM portable units? Even the first ones had 25 hours to start with...

You really listen to NFL that often? I got XM because the daily sports are more valuable on the radio.

I have the old portable Dante, not one of the newer models. It gets decent coverage indoors in some spots, essentially when you are looking towards the south. If you are facing north wherever you work you probably will find you are just docking it and saving some content for later. If you save the content though through scheduling it will be as good as getting it "live". With 25 or more hours of saved content you can put a couple hours of a lot of channels, just give it a day to gather what you need. Live coverage is mostly useful for sports or news channels, the music doesn't really matter. They tend to play the same songs every 4 or 5 hours on many of the channels, if not more often.

What music channels do you listen to WildBill? The music channel that I listen to the most XMU, Channel 43, rarely has repeating music that often.

For NFL/Sirius guys, how often during a 17 or so week season are you not sitting in front of the TV? Very few, right? Give me xm and a whole season of baseball anytime.

The portable unit works okay detached, but it is best in the car or in the house. Best $149 I ever spent.

Live reception has a long way to go for both the Inno and Stiletto. Its a satelite signal, you have to have a direct line of sight to the sky(pointing south for xm). If your lucky enough to live in a large city, you will most likely pick up a repeater signal.

In order to get solid reception outside, you will need the antenna headphone.
