Have never seen any of these films and feel like I owe it to myself to try them and noticed they are currently on Cinemax on demand until the end of the year. My question is I like things to be in order and these wierd stories out of order like they came out aren't my cup of tea. That being said, do I watch these movies in the realease order starting with star wars(the 4th in order) or would it be more effective to watch them starting with the phantom one which I believe is the first in real order but 4th in realease order. Thanks for any input.

I would watch them in the order they were released

you can see the original saga and then "how things got to that"

the episode that is generally considered (and I think the same) the best is episode V

IMO this series shows a very interesting situation.......how the worst of evils can trace its back to 'good' and how at some important crossroads the 'good' turned into pure evil

hope you enjoy the movies as much as I do (I even have a lightsaber replica on display in my living room ) :toast:

First of all, HOW IN THE WORLD HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN STAR WARS???? I'm not a sci fi nerd, I hate sci fi. But Star Wars is in a class of its own. I suggest watching in the order they were released. I think Episode 3 may not be as good if you are not interested in how/why Darth Vader came to be. These movies are prequels for a reason, they are best watched when explaining a story that you already know.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Episode IV: A New Hope

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

In that order...w/ episode 3 you get to see why Darth Vader is who he is...JMO

Interesting, you have been the first to break the release order. Please keep the input coming. Want to make sure I do this properly.

the 1st 2 are more of a kids show...the last 4 deal with adult life of Darth Vader and are more for adults...JMO

pros of episodes 1 & 2

you get to see Princess Amidala really young
it explains how everything was being manipulated by the Emperor (The blockades etc)
cool fight where Qui Gon (sp?) dies
it shows C3PO and R2 on their 'beginnings'

cons

idiotic jar jar binks
idiotic jar jar binks
idiotic jar .........

I have watched as each movie was released. And also in order by the story line. Good thing watching it in order of release is the first few are better than the others. After watching them, you might be dissapointed in the rest.
Watching in the order by storyline was good. You pick up more of the undertones of the story line and easier to follow. One downfall, when you get the middle episodes watching it this way, you can clearly see the difference in technology a few years makes.

Im a Junkie....I say watch them in the order they are suppose to happen.

Episode 1,2,3,4,5,6

Then you will appreciate the first set of films all the more.

i am leaning towards watching them in order how the events happened not realease dates. My only question is, would I need to have watched the realeased ones prior to phantom to understand who the characters are or is it easy to pick up without having seen star wars, jedi etc. Thanks for all the help. Kind of excited to catch up on this phenomenon that is star wars.

I dont think you need to

the prequels actually clarify many things that were not immediately obvious from the first 3 movies (IV,V and VI that is)

if you watch them in order you wont say "ahhhhhhhh thats why.....", you will simply have a starting point and the story evolves from there

i watched them in order. I think it's easy to pick up the story of the original trilogy after watching the newer ones. They definitely brought a new meaning to the olders as i re-watched them. You might not pick up on them if you started with A New Hope.

okay it is official, will start with episode 1 and proceed from there. I have heard the first few aren't good, so hopefully I can find them enjoyable and not lose interest. I will update my progress as I proceed. Thanks for the input everyone.

In my opinion, I don't think it matters whether you watch them in order of the events or the release dates. But seeing as how you have to know the twist in the story, I would agree that watching them I-IV would be best. Also, since this is a thread about Star Wars, am I the only one here that actually enjoys The Phantom Menace :lolBIG:? Anyway, Royalfan hopefully you enjoy the saga as much as I do, for me, Star Wars shed a whole new light on how movies are supposed to be.

How have you not seen any of these movies? The original Star Wars has only been on TV about 4,567 times. Did you not ever date a girl? Did you not ever go out and see a movie with friends? Have you ever left your computer or your house? I can't believe you didn't see any of these with a sibling or some other relative. Good Lord man, get out of the house once in a while.

Seen tons and tons of movies, but not in any way shape or form a sci-fi fan. When I was young I was always playing basketball, football or baseball or working women, so if anything I was not home enough to catch this movie. Parents were not big fans either, I guess as the topic wasn't brought up. Didn't care to see a lot of movies back then. There have been many times I have seen it on tv but I always like to watch things from the start. Always a movie I wanted to see worse if me and my many girlfriends over the years hit the video store. To call me out as a loser because I haven't seen star wars is silly. What is worse, lying cheating and stealing as a bonus whore multiple account holder or not seeing star wars? You might ask yourself that. As I start to get older, I am willing to give more things a chance and feel it is time to give these a chance. Hopefully, I like it as much as most do.
