I was browsing a thread, where somebody said "I never bet on my Giants". That got me to thinking how many people have this way of thinking.

Everybody has at least one team they are a true die hard fan of since they could remember (or at least, most everybody).

Do you have a set of ethics on this team, and if so what team and what policy?

Such as, I never bet for them or against them..or

I bet only for them and I never bet against them even though my brain tells me they will lose and can make money, my heart is with the team and I won't lay money against them.

or, fuck it, I'm here to make money if I think my team will lose I'll lay down as much as I can afford.

Could care less about my favorite teams when it comes to wagering.

Those that do only do this as a hobby apparrently.

If your in this business to make money, set your heart aside and bet with your head.

I'll never bet against my favorite/hometown teams...even though there have definitely been times where I knew they wouldn't cover, I still wouldn't pull the trigger. Just can't do it.

It's stupid, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Maybe when I'm older or something.

It takes something out of you as a fan to bet against your team.

I hate doing it.

(My team is the Texans)...

To play devils advocate, arn't there many other games on the slip? I don't think laying off betting against your teams could hurt your business side significantly or even remotely.

I used to not bet against my teams, but since I started treating betting as a second income, I do it regularly. I look at it this way. I know the most about the teams that I like and follow, i.e., the Gators and Jaguars. I go to every one of their home games. I feel like I have a good read on these teams. So why not benefit from it?

Last Sunday, I might have been the only Jag fan cheering for the Texans (to cover that is). Why? Because if you know the Jags, you know Houston always plays them tough. It always happens. I knew Garrard was due for a letdown, and I felt we would come out flat. The +10 for Houston was golden to me, and I turned out to be correct.

My point is, you know your team better than any other. I'm taking advantage of that.

I don't think the word "ethics" has anything to do with what you are saying in this thread.

Disagree, as I would think if one viewed their favorite teams with UNBIASED views, they should have an edge wagering ON or OFF those teams.

I once bet againt th Orioles in the playoffs, it was the strangest feeling, this of course back when I still cared very much about them...I won the bet, but felt bad...the Orioles had already beaten heavily favored Cleveland the first two games of the series, and I didn't see them sweeping them, if I had to do it over I would have just passed on it....I don't have any real hometown teams anymore, so it wouldn't matter.

I totally agree. My favorite team is the skins. I bet with and against them all the time. I have a better chance covering their games then any other games.

Like I tell my fellow skins fans...My loyalty lies within the color green :suomi: rock on

exactly my point. If ethics were involved you wouldn't bet on any team based on the principle that gambling is morally wrong. It is not like moral principles would stop you from betting on your team only.

Alright lets split hairs asshole. It won't be a waste of time or anything.

Morals are a set of values individually decided. Pornstars can have morals. I will suck cock, but I won't have vaginal intercourse because I'm married. They are individually set.

Ethics is just a set of morals. Everybody is different. Some people might think it is morally wrong to abort a child, some people might not. Everybody is different.

So, if you are setting ethics in sports betting for example. Some people might think is wrong to bet on their team, but okay to gamble. Its not as important so to speak as your ethics on other things in life, but it is still a set of ethics.

So basically son, it's "right and wrongs" as you perceive them.

I agree, and I have the best reads often times on games my clubs are playing in. I am lethal on Husker basketball and football totals and pretty good on sides involving them also.

being in the hometown of a major team is a huge advantage, the radio shows, the newspapers, the local coverage, we are blessed with alot of extra information....

not exploiting that information to bet FOR or AGAINST your favorite team is unwise.

When it comes to wagering, I'll let my wallet do the talking, not my favorite team.

Not only do I bet against my favourite team, but when there's money on their opponent, I'll cheer against them. Me winning is more important than them winning.
