Measurements of online traffic by Nielsen/NetRatings show that the number of unique U.S. visitors to any of 10 Web sites tracked dropped 56 percent from September.
Nielsen/NetRatings said the decrease followed a year of steady growth — and there still was a growth of 19 percent recorded in October compared with the same month in 2005.
Sites tracked by the company include Sportsbook.com, PartyPoker.com and Ultimatebet.com.
On Oct. 13, Bush signed a port-security bill that included the online gambling provision, which seeks to clarify existing laws that had addressed gambling by phone. It also creates new criminal penalties and prohibits Internet gamblers from using credit cards, checks and electronic fund transfers to settle their wagers.
Although experts predicted that some might skirt the ban by turning to overseas payment services out of the law's reach, many sites announced they would stop taking U.S. bets in light of the law and arrests of executives from leading gambling companies based abroad.

I'd like to see the whole list of sites tracked for this study.

TheRx saw a record 5800+ last Sunday. And I hear the privately owned books are seeing record numbers, too.

They tracked 10 sites and 2 of them are partypoker and sportsbook.com.

Gee - I wonder why traffic went down?

Its so funny - the press writes something like this - the average guy in Kansas thinks "hey my govt did a great thing" and the politicians get to thump their chests. Meanwhile very little has changed.

This is great for us though - let them take the credit and be happy and tell everyone how nobody is gambling. Perfect.

why don't they just go to pokerstars.com or fulltiltpoker.com and check out how many players are on right now, looks like times are tough for them. Where are they going to put all that money? That is their biggest problem.

Nielsen/NetRatings only looks at large companies. They pitched me while I was at Don Best, but DonBest.com did not even register on their service.

Hitwise is a much better gauge for our industry. And according to them, our traffic continues to grow.

So, a big thanks to all of you! We can't do it without you! :thumbsup2:

Thanks,
Rick

Very interesting read. I wondered how Alexa did their tracking and should have known that it was something like this and open to corrupt figures. Thanks for the link.

I agree with xpanda for i play poker professionally and the site i play the most is seeing record numbers. Instead of 11 to 12k people at our peak hours we are getting between 15 to 16k. So i agree let those jackoffs think they did something and we will keep doing our thing in peace.

Another indicator of growth here at The Rx. is new registrations. During the last 21 days we have had 592 new registrations which averages out to around 28 people siging up everyday.. Definitely new record territory.

GREAT to see the Rx doing well getting new blood:thumbsup2:

BUT IMO these figures can't be good, because even if the head count is up, what ultimately drives revenue at the Rx and all watchdog sites is advertising dollars, and if the handle goes way down industry wide.....:cryingcry

It probably had a lot to do with ACE ACE...

If I'm the head mod, I could do 10 times better than what it is now.

LOL...JUST KIDDING, BUT I STILL THINK I COULD DO 2 TIMES BETTER WITHOUT EVEN TRY.
