Why do some books deal dead numbers at the half?

Am I alone in my frustration in regards to some sportsbooks insistence in putting up dead lines at halftimes? In the late NBA game, the Raptors led the Warriors by 6 at the half and Olympic deal the secod half as Warriors -6. The second half cant finish on 6 without the game going to OT, so why not deal around it eg 5 or 7 and juice the crap out of those numbers?

Probably an easy out. I can't imagine the NBA 2nd H volume is too high right now anywhere.

Especially on a crappy Raptors/Warriors game. But theyre not going to do themselves any favours by attracting extra volume when theyre dealiong numbers that cant land. I just thought it would make more sense to pick a live number and juice the crap out of it. Why not juice 5 and 7 and bounce back and forth between the two numbers?

Wouldn't it make more sense to put a 6 out than a 5 or 7. This way there is a decision and no chance for a push. No one wins when a game, or half for tha matter pushes.

At first, GD, I started to reply in disagreement as I didn't understand you... but as I typed, I finally understood what you meant.

Syddiggers, I think GD is trying to say that the books do not want a push at all because it'd be like as if the "bets never came to them in the 1st place". With the Warriors at -6, the books *know* that they *will* settle all 2H wagers without a push thus making that number...

Plus, the books can still juice the -6 line if they wanted to.

Because there are way more than enough people to bet into them, thats why.
No need to ever hang a sharp number when people are buying up all the bad ones either way.

I am not understanding this thread, since when does having a # that has no chance of pushing considered to be dead? I guess all numbers that have half points in them are not sharp? 2.5,3.5,4.5 ect...
