I was just wondering are any of you guys going to line up for a shot at this system just to sell on ebay? If so how long should we wait for? Has anyone waited for this overnight via the 360? Are we safe lining up overnight or I even heard some people line up two nights before which is crazy...
Mikey..I can help you out...
Last year I camped out for the 360 in Jacksonville, FL. I called around to find out who would actually get the 360. Most stores were. Also there was a great website that had how many 360's each Best Buy was getting. It was amazing. That way when you go to camp out you can see how many people are in line and if you'll get one.
I had to work till 11pm last year. But during work I called Targets around me to find out if people had lined up. I think some did by 8pm which I thought was crazy. Some had more people in line than they had 360's in the store. So I knew which ones not to go to. Best Buys got the most I think. Toys R Us had the least. I remember one TRUs had like 3 people in line cause that's all they were getting. I wanted to go anywhere I still had a chance to camp out. I thought Best Buy would be the first place for most people. I decided on Target so I headed there.
I went home after work, got my stuff, and went to a newer Target in town. The people in line did their homework and knew how many 360's Target was getting. So I saw that if I got in line I had a chance.
Camped out al the way till 8am I think. Went by surprisingly fast. Luckily I'm in Florida, and even thought it was freezing, I dressed warm. I heard some places it rained and even snowed. That's tough. They passed out these vouchers for the 360 at 7am (early). They said we had until noon to come back to buy them. If we didn't, then we'd lose our chance. I think Target may do it the same way but I'm not sure.
But I know for the 360, people were camping out at Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Costco, and Toys R Us. All those places do not take preorders.
A 24 hour Wal Mart might be a good shot because people were allowed to wait inside the store so they stayed warm. However people lined up for that SO early in the day. Starting that morning I think.
I felt so safe at my Target. There were a lot of people (20 or so). Well lit. There was a security guard driving around in the parking lot. If we had to piss we went to the side of the building. Everyone in line was pretty cool. I made sure I brought enough things to keep me busy. I read some people brought TV's with a DVD player run by a generator.
BUT if someone wanted to rob people in line it was a great chance. People with laptops, PSPs and lots of money all there in the middle of the night.
It was amazing some people showed up the morning Target opened to buy a 360. Clearly they had no idea people were there in line 8 hours earlier or more to get one. They just thought they could waltz right up to get one. I shook my head at them.
So I dont' know if you need to camp out two days early. Some stores may not let you camp out that early. But I would suggest going as early as possible.
Just be safe when you camp out. Watch your stuff. Don't leave it unattended if you're not sure. Just be smart.
I hope to camp out for a PS3 but I think they're expecting fewer units than the 360 last year. Plus Sony is still the leader in gaming so people will be dying to get this. When people saw how much the 360's went for and how much the PS3's are going for now, people are looking to make easy money.
Let me know if I can answer more questions.
