I tried to sign on my netteller acct and received a message " Your account has been closed"

Does this happen to anyone else or just me?

Geeze....It's all cleared up now. I travelled to Cananda for thanksgiving weekend I used my sister's pc to sign on and Neteller automatically closed my account. I had to call them to go thru a whole security process like you first sign up........I have to do that again when I get back to the US. HASSLE FREE eh.....really.

Is that because they don't allow Canadians to use NETeller, or is it just to make sure no one else accessed your account?

I think they just make sure that only YOU the owner of the acct can access....

Its just a security measure from Neteller ( and a fantastic one at that ). Once they recognise a foreign IP address to the one you gave them when you registered, they will freeze your acct until you contact them personally to confirm that it was you who accessed the acct from the different country. This can only be lifted over the telephone, but can be done so almost immediately.

I wonder if you go across the street to a friends PC
or to one in the next state if they will in these cases
also close your account.

I think very few if any SB's would do this.

Would your bank close down your online account?

Would any other reputable business?

Has Neteller ever informed their customers of this policy?

I wouldn't want to be on holiday in Thailand and find out
i couldn't get any money cuz my funds were frozen.

I wasnt aware of this Neteller policy until it happened to me. I had accessed Neteller when in a foreign country and then the next time that I went to use it I had a notice to contact them. It was all resolved in a matter of moments on the phone.

They didnt stop any of my transactions, they just wanted confirmation that I made them and from the country that I was in at the time before they would let me do another one.

You shouldnt have a problem with the first couple of transactions if you were in Thailand, but I would keep their number handy just in case you have to contact them asap. As I said, it is cleared up in a matter of moments once you let them know what country youve been using the acct from and answer your security question.

If you anticipate you are going to be needed your neteller while in another country then call them up and say your account needs to be flagged as 'international access' or something like that.

I for one love this protection and is a simple phone call away to implement or unlock ...

Couldn't neteller also close the account if you left it inactive for let's say 4 months with no money in it?

You can access different neteller accounts from the same computer. You just have to be in the same country. I have found that accessing the accounts is not what triggers the lockouts, withdrawals and peer to peer transfers are.

Don't they trust their customers to keep their account secure? They recently started automatic email notification for transfers but not withdrawals?

The different country denial of service is bizarre. I can go 3900 miles across Canada but 25 miles to the US border and I'm locked out of my account?

They temporarily closed my account after 180 days of no usage - I just wasn't moving any money in or out of it. Quick call for verification and I was all set.
