Didn't see this posted anywhere else and just found out about this 30 minutes ago but Dallas is cutting their "star" kicker. Just read the article on ESPN. Dallas will go with Gramatica as their kicker.

Vanderjagt has had a bad season so far ...

Probably because he is a choke artist, and they could sign the most clutch kicker of all-time to replace him. A secondary reason is that he is a dickhead who feuded with their QB.

The Pats brought Gramatica into training camp this pre-season, from what I rec-all he kicked pretty well.

I like this move by the Cowboys...when the 'idiot kicker' missed a 40 & 46 yarder at home last week..and ON TURF...that had tbe the cherry on the cake.

were they fighting over a Dumb Blonde who has the same name as Homer.....:ughhh:

Football is not and I'll say it again is not the Game I played years ago........Belive you me, we do not live in a perfect society so why is Romo a hero? The same reason Rothensberger WAS? Remember the NFL Network is brodcasting Thursday's game, Tell me it's not all about money but don't forget those who could care less about you!

I haven't seen a salary dump in mid-season in a very long time...most, if not all salary casualties occur before & during training camp. This is strictly a performance move, as they saw him as a liability during this Playoffs run.

as wrigley stated........

Hopefully Gramatica has improved from his 2004 season when he kicked for Indy and was 4-11 between 30-49 yards out

I think the second part was more of the reason! The Fued over a Blonde! Lets say they were fighting over the same Blonde and Management talked it over and decided, Romo is more of the Offense then V-man so...........

Better question is why when the Colts offered 3.5$/year and the Pats had offered $2.5 to Vinitieri did the Pats not match? Adam wanted to stay in NE and NE was $12M under the cap.

Worst free agent blunder in the history of the NFL. The guy won you two superbowls!!! And you let him go over $1M

I took a shuttle to the airport with the Pats sound guy. He's the guy who holds the little satellite dish for sounds on the field. He said that when Indy played in New England the Krafts came up to talk to Vinitieri and he just walked away before they could talk to him.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

Sean1-

The Pats have a business philosophy for free agent signings. They NEVER set the market for a certain position. Signing Adam to $3.5 mill/season would be setting the market, and breaking a league record for a kicker salary.

Yes- Adam is the most clutcher kicker in history. But he's getting on w/ age & there were concerns about his back problems. Paying him for past performances is just not something they wanted to do.

They also had a chance to franchise him...but that would be the third time, they would do so. So, the Pats did a nice gesture and let him hit the free agent market for a good chunk of change.

This is a business philosophy that has won three Super Bowls...they won't change, period. (ie: wide receiver situation w/ Branch).

And NOBODY has gone from the Patriots to another team and has excelled better than they did on the Patriots...the only ones so far, have basically been Greg Spires. Damien Woody, Lawyer Milloy, Joe Andruzzi, David Patten, Christian Fauria, Willie McGinest, Ted Washington, etc etc the list goes on and on have dropped considerally.

As a huge Pats fan...I trust EVERY business decision they make...there isnt an example that has proved them wrong.

...and Gostowski's kick offs have considerally better than Adam...Adam rarely touched the end zone.

And that $10 mill+ under the salaray cap will be put in use, during contract extensions/restructuring to other key players that will be hitting their first major free agent contracts. They have already done so w/ Seymour & Koppen.

Ty Warren, Logan Mankins, Asante Samuel, etc will all be looking at huge contracts...money will be spent.

I'm afraid too many people understimate the value of a good kicker, much less a clutch kicker. I would trade Gostowski's touchbacks for Vinitieri's clutch kicks any day.

The owners of the Colts know his value after Vanderjagt's miscues last year. Vinitieri wouldn't have missed those.

The kicker is one of the league's most prolific scorers. The Pats' owners will rue the day they didn't cough up a million more for Vinitieri. Mark my words.

kickers are expendable period. it shouldn't be that way, but it is. This has been a horrible year for good kickers.
