Drew might be a moron, but he is a hell of a ballplayer. Now, surely Theo has changed his way quite a bit this year, but last year ended miserable and they have some cash to spend.
I would not worry about the money spent on Drew, he is worth it as he CAN protect Ortiz (and Manny as long as he is in the team...), however all the money that might be spent on a pitcher that has very little experience against good opposition seems a bit more like a gamble.
Theo thinks he know what he get, and if he is right, this team is looking very good. Seems you are one of these fans that want the huge names to come in and do the job. Maybe you should change to the yankees and experience that it never works. Ever...

i am not looking for big names at all. i just feel giving a 5 year contract worth a ton of money to someone who is doesnt play because he has a hang nail is a HUGE gamble. when i first psoted this, it looked like drew was the replacement for manny. i think as a five hitter he will be a huge improvement considering the five hitter last year for the sox ranked last in the league in just about all offensive categories. the gamble on the " japanese phenom" aside from killing their cap, should pay dividends with tv and sirts,hats revenue from overseas.

He has been injuried yep, I agree, he is not the healthiest guy in any sense. HOWEVER the thing about emotion is right about the best part of him. He has exactly no feelings for the club he plays in except doing good and earning his money. This is why he will not fold for pressure and he will definitely not shit his pants in big games. Roll as good as much as you want, the guy is good.
Oh well, enough about this one guy, there are like 50 other signings out there that are, well, strange.
