This is the dumbest thing they could do...Boston also may be looking to bring Barry Bonds in is the rumor.

They are crazy to get rid of Manny, just let him cool off and bring him back...The Dodgers are the team most likely to get Manny if he's dealt.

What do you think of my theory of them not signing that Japanese pitcher?

They are way off on salary.

The Drew / Manny thing are not really corellated...they would be going after Drew, regardless of the Manny trade scenario (loss of Nixon in right field).

Where did you hear the Dodgers are most likely? I havent read that...the most recent rumors were the Giants & Padres:

"The Padres are reportedly offering major league players for Ramírez. The Globe suggests that Jake Peavy is a possibility, but we really doubt that's the case. It seems like Scott Linebrink would almost have to be involved. The Red Sox have also had interest in the past in Adrian Gonzalez, though he would have come quite a bit cheaper a year ago. Others likely to be of some interest include Mike Cameron and Clay Hensley. There's been no mention of Khalil Greene being an option.
Source: Boston Globe"

And the Angels will always be a possability.

...and not too sure Bonds would even come here...he was highly critical of the city of Boston a couple years back saying how 'racised' the city is...so that wouldnt make sense, especially with our media.

They are paying Drew way too much money too, 70 mil. But I guess everyone is getting overpaid this off season.

It's not a direct trade, I seriously doubt they keep manny and sign Drew...they're looking at Drew because they're resigned to dealing Ramirez.

Plus Drew is another lefty, and the Sox have paid 51 million just for te rights to the Japanese pitcher, it seems like their making several bold moves that could backfire.... it's staggering the money these slightly above average players are pulling in now.

Way off and that was also in the news, MLB again stated that Boston could not have the price tag reduced even though it was significantly higher than any other team (secret bids) Boston denied they were trying to get the figure lowered.

As a Red Sox hater, I've been waiting for this for years...it will go down as one of the worst decisions in recent Boston history. Ramirez is a first-ballot HOFamer and one of the top three hitters in baseball.

Any team should be willing to put up with any antics in exchange for what he provides with the stick. He's also become servicable in left field for Boston; no other OF plays the Monster better than he does.

He might take some games off, he might be lazy on the bases, etc. but he's unmatched in production, his teammates love him, and he can literally carry your offense for weeks at a time,

I'm thrilled that they're going to trade him...Ortiz and Co. are going to suffer big-time, ESPECIALLY Ortiz. Be prepared to see zero pitches to hit next season, Papi. Outstanding.

For all the attention and credit Ortiz gets, Ramirez has been far and away their most valuable hitter. The protection he provided Ortiz over the past few years is immeasurable...well, at least until he gets traded. Then Red Sox fans who have whined about ManRam for years will get a taste of life without probably the best hitter of our generation.

i'm just saying that the Manny-Drew thing is not related...the team's bottom of the offensive lineup was a real weakness last season...they were looking for an additional bat either way. Trot Nixon's injuries & decrease in power numbers are a team concern, and havent offered him a contract.

Also- yes, they are way over paying for Drew...I thought he was an idiot for opting out of his 3yr/$33 mill deal w/ the Dodgers..but him & his agent had this market peg'd...insane contracts.

Yeah- the sox & Scott Boras are way off in the contract negotiations for DM...Sox initially offered $8/mill season, Boras is asking $15/mill...WOW...Larry Luccino just flew over to Japan the other day...i'm sure they'll make some progress, but those numbers are very far apart.

The Sox lineup was nowhere near as good...even when they were winning you could see it, I wasn't sold on Youklis at the top either.

Just wait til Manny moves on this team will miss him, Ortiz will miss him most of all, it wll be interesting to see what kind of year Ortiz has without Manny's big bat behind him....as others have mentioned he's been as good as anyone for so many years now, to cast him off and bring in a guy like Drew, and yes it is because they're getting Drew, they would not get Drew and keep Manny....If I were a Boston fan I'd be pissed.

Top RH hitter of the last 30 years.

as probably the biggest red sox fan on this board...i must admitt i have lost almost all respect for the organization in the last month..

A) the offer to the jap was fu-king laughable...mlb has said "the offer is in good faith" so both sides come to a deal...if thats the case they will be paying this clown around 20mil a year and people bitch about mannys salary...lol...this guy is UNPROVEN...at least you know what you get with a guy like Manny....300+ave 30-45hr and 100++++ rbi a year...

B) the thought of trading manny to free up salary to give to a shitbag UNDERCHIEVER like draw is even more laughable...i wont even go into detail there...

see...i disagree...they can very well keep Manny & get Drew. I havent heard that from any of the Sox beat writers up here. This Manny thing happens every off season...this year is no different, and I wouldn't imagine they would be in the late stages of contract negotiations w/ Drew if they cant afford both. Trading Manny is not exactly guaranteed.

I def. agree w/ ya about Manny...I'm a big Yankees fan in New England...and have openly said Manny is thee most talented right handed hitter in the game. If he actually took the same approach as Pujols - I could see him be just as dangerous (just too many vacations he takes). & just as good.

More natural talent & strong as all hell...then any hitter in the game...and part of the success of Ortiz is Manny.

I agree- it would be a mistake to trade Manny...considering his value, and the base of reasoning for trading him (and putting him on waivers at one time) is his contract. And seeing Carlos Lee & Gary Matthews' contracts...Manny is no longer over payed.

dude people were talking years ago how NO mlb player was worth 20mill (after manny and arod signed their deals)....now they gonna give this clown 20mill a year bc 50mill is going to his club...its just a joke...its no wonder why i became a fan of the det tigers this summer...watching that team play with a bunch of rookies sprinkled in with a few vets was incredible...

i thought the red sox were supposed to take THAT approach...make quality draft picks...build from within and let the yankees overspend...and now they are just the same...sickening...

thats why i respect the patriots so much now...they dont play games if a guy doesnt want to play ball in regards to contract #s...its see ya..........
