I heard on a radio station that there is talk of a Van Halen reunion in 2007 but this time with David Lee Roth.It would be interesting to see if DLR sang any of the later Van halen songs.I like them both but I think I am in the minority because I like Sammy better.I would prefer to see the Old Van Halen on tour only because it has been 22 years so it sounds more awesome.
Are there any Van Halen fans here?Which singer do you like better?

I do like the original VH better, the new stuff was good, but I was around to hear the original, and like it better.

I don't reconize the Hagar stuff as Van Halen.

I heard that DLR's voice is shot. Also Michael Anthony has left the band. Eddie's son will be the bass player.

Yeah I know the David Lee Roth period was liked by more people. But I think they were both good.
I think the #1 example of a group that kicked ass with 2 lead singers would have to be AC/DC.They had a lot of classics with both lead singers.Bon Scott(Highway to hell,Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap,TNT etc) and Brian Johnson(Back in black,Shook me all night Long,For those about to rock,Hells Bells etc).Talk about one guy picking up right where the other guy left off...

oh my!

Wolfgang on base hmm, Mike Anthony brought a lot, background vocals as well...this band has crumbled before our eyes....similar to Journey actually ..

I respect the fact you don't acknowledge the Hagar years, I prefer the Hagar years much more...I seriously doubt DLR could pull it off at this point...average singer at best in his prime and more of a showman/rocker, I just can't see it.... its a shame they way they just fell apart .

It's always hard to one up the original lineup ,especially when you're talking about that kind of success, I'm not ure any band ever had equal success with two different front men at that level...I think I read where VH was actually more successful with Hagar, I know they had more #1 albums with Sammy.

Sold many more albums with Hagar. Hagar came along at the peak of heavy metal and MTV. Sammy knows marketing.

Ask yourself this, could Roth sing Hagar songs ? I don't think so.

On the flip, I don't think Sammy embarrassed VH when they played Panama with him.

My thoughts exactly. Van Hagar couldn't touch anything Van Halen did pre-"1984". Van Halen I is practically a flawless album when placed in the context of the time period.

I'm curious why you say that, is it the voice, the musicians are the same, just curious?

It is hard to picture DLR singing "When its love" or "Right Now"...that would probably sound funny.

For me its just a question of going back to 1978 and placing this album, brand-new from the store on the turntable. From the first seconds of "Runnin' with the Devil", that album just drew you in as it was like nothing you'd heard before. There really isn't a bad song on the whole album, which is almost impossible to say for a debut album. A band only gets one shot at a debut album and this was about as good as it gets. IMO, everything else Van Halen did with Roth was just footnotes to VHI.

I agree, but still like VH 1 better, always will. Van Hagar was good, I like it, but it is different music altogether. JMO

Well put.:103631605

Boston's debut album also comes to mind as one of the best debut albums.
