I have followed root for a while. He has a worse rep than deserved. He can pick winners in the NFL. I have never read the book though.

I know Wayne personally though have not read his latest book. He is very very bright though a not a pro gambler (regardless of his self proclaimed title)...and I am sure you would get some benefit. Not much help but threw it in here anyway.

Book is a good read. You will pick up a few angles you hadnt thought of. You have to skip over a bunch of the spirituality of it tho. the first few chapters is about how he wakes up, does yoga, prays, takes vitamins, has his colon cleansed, etc.

His whole theme is bet against what the squares play and bet the team that looks like they cant possibly cover, and if a total looks way too high take the over, etc....

I have close to 25-20 gambling books. I love to read more than anything, even if it is from a tout. I am going to go to Amazon and read the reviews.

I got a copy if you want u can have it. Its a quick easy read.

throw your girlfriend down the stairs theory-if a player gets arrested or otherwise instigates bad press..bet against that team-they have low moral.

Bet on the loose team that has nothing to prove, not the big public team that must win to clinch playoff, etc/

Mark the calendar theory-if a team was blown out last year and have a lot of same starters, bet on that team to cove the spread.

reviews look good, almost too good, almost like a guy like Root may have written them himself. You never know with that guy.

Few more decent reviews here and I am on my way to the book store.

It's an informative and entertaining book. You will get some new ideas on sports handicapping by reading it.

Not at all trying to sound like a sharp but is it basic stuff? Either or, I do love to read gambling books for entertainment so that is all I am looking for.

Seen it at one of those remaindered bookstores but bought some cookbooks instead. You can never have enough cookbooks.

Exactly which WAR book are you talking about? I read his first book and got a lot out of it although I had already believed in some of his theories like "Doesn't Make Sense" and a lower ranked or unranked team favored over a higher ranked team. Usually this really works in the NCAA BB Tournament. It's made me a lot of money in the past since I read his book.

But if you can get a recent copy of Poker Player, he writes a guest article on the front page which goes into why the Republicans lost because they sponsored the Internet Gambling Bill! Real nice read. Seems like Root is spreading his wings and tryiong to run for office as a Republican....maybe mayor of Vegas!

Betting against what looks obvious is what wannabe sharps do - it gets you no where in the long run - without reading this book I can say with absolute certainty that it is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Let me add I am not looking at a how to book. God knows I have dozens of them. I just like gambling books and liked to be entertained and if I pick a few things up along the way than it is a bonus.

Both basic and sharp stuff. He gets into some types of factors that a lot of people might overlook. And emphasizes being the "contrarian". Like or hate Root, it's worth reading.

.........and being the CONTRARIAN that is me............is precisely why I liked the book and RECOMMEND IT TO ALL SPORTSBETTORS...........expecially those that are relatively new to this business.

I ordered it yesterday from GBC, along with Stanleys methodology (harness racing book), and NBA scheduling 2006-2007 (indepth look at how scheduling in the NBA has performed over the years as related to gambling, almost 300 pages). Can't wait will get the middle of next week.

Read Stanleys books in the very early 80's to help me battle the harness track at QUAD CITY Downs on the ILLINOIS/IOWA border.

To this day, HARNESS is the only parimutual racing I can beat........no clue with the dogs and/or thouroughbreds.

STANLEYS books are FAR and AWAY the reason that I can truthfully say that I am a lifetime winner at harness racing...........I use most of his methods every time I tackle the harness races.

Billsfan has seen me "crunching the harness numbers" from the racing form on many occassions............little does she know that its STANLEYS formulas that I am calculating.

I also have (first gambling book I have ever bought) "Stanley's Law", which I bought in the late 80's and use to try (but it was hard) to follow his don't ever bet a horse unless you are getting 3-1 odds or better. This book is a new one that he wrote in 2003.

Harness racing also my best!!!
