#1) If you have a top 8, then teams 9 and 10 are going to bitch and moan because they did not get in.

ANSWER.
So What? There is a big difference if Auburn and Oklahoma are bitching about how they should be #8 instead of Boise St. The purpose of a final 8 is not to get the perfect 8 teams in the final, its to crown a true National Champion. There is a big difference in Auburn and Oklahoma bitching about being #8 over Bosie St over what he have now, which is Michagan and Flordia bitching about whos #2. Whats more important?

When was the last time you heard someone say, you know what? DUKE won the National Championship in basketball, but I bet if they would have let BUTLER get in the big dance instead of Western Kentucky Duke would not of won the National Championship.

#2) There is just so much money in the bowl games?

Answer

Of course there is alot of money in the bowl games, if the NFL had Bowl games, there would be alot of money in that to. But which one would have the most money? The answer is obvious. The ratings for a final 8 in football would be stagering, and guess what? If they wanted to keep the bowls, go ahead and incorporate them into the playoff structure.

Can you imagine the ratings of this:

Week #1

OHIO ST VS BOISE ST
Flordia vs Wisconsin
Michagan vs Louisville
LSU VS USC

Can you imagine the exitement in the forums right now looking forward to these matchups.

Another thing I hear is the fact that they say that you cannot sellout all the games because the illumnis cant afford to go to all the games in back to back to back weeks. LOL!!!

First of all. They can make the first round of games, home games for the top seeds. Then they can play the final 4 at the traditional bowl sites.

How hard is that to figure out?

#3) They are student athletes!!!! LMFAO

This is the most ridiculous argument of all. First off, they just added a 12th game to the scedule. Go ahead and put it back to 11 games. There are sometimes almost 2 months in between the last regular season game, and the bowl games. Eliminate all that dead time by playing these playoff games.

The fact that they say it cant be done because they are student athletes is insane. Are not the college basketball players student athletes to. When you add in the conference tourneys in college basketball which in almost every case are on neutral courts, which means that these college teams have to travel away from home, the College basketball March Madness season last over a month!!!! Late Feb to early April. This is more away time then the college football playoff format would take.

Division 1-AA, football also has a playoff system, arent they student athletes to?

This whole thing is a joke, and the fans and players are the one paying the price.

Personally im sick and tired of talking about this every year. Its a joke!!!!!

You cant tell me a team like Michagan, LSU, USC, Louisiville and even Boise St should not get the chance to prove that they are worthy on the football field.

About the only major sport that doesn't have a playoff system and hardly anybody likes it...

Every year the same argument: "Who's number 2?"

Scrap it and at least let the final 8 play it out for number 1.

If they had a final 8, you would have 5 legit contenders for the National title. It would be fun.

I posted this in Daddy Dank's thread. You could easily have a 16-team playoff AND keep the current bowls simply by reducing the games back to 11 and get rid of the 3 conference championships. Oregon State and Washington were co Pac-10 champs in 2000 and both went on to BCS games. If the ultimate goal is to win the national championship, I'm sure two teams from the SEC or Big 12 wouldn't mind sharing a conference championship.

In this scenario no one is going to argue who is ranked 17th or 18th. If you aren't in the top 16 in a BCS-like poll, even if you win the conference, you are not one of the top 16 teams.

The first two rounds of the playoffs start the last weekend in November and first weekend of December (no different than now). Games played at the higher seeded teams home field. The 12 losers in tournement and 40 other teams still go to the bowls as usual. Final four starts New Years Day and Championship game is one week later (just like this year).

No players will miss finals. Teams will still go to bowl games (USC essentially lost a playoff game last weekend, they will still play in the Rose Bowl), and Oregon State and Missouri, who were never going to qualify for a 16 team playoff, would still be thrilled as all hell to go to the Sun Bowl.

Of course this will never happen. The only difference is this scenario will generate millions more dollars and there will be a true national champion decided on the field.
