Whats the fucking deal?

Just when it looked like the owners were starting to have some sense of responsibility, here we go agian.

Gary Mathews Jr 5 Years 50 Mill.
Ted Lilly $10 mill per season and on and on.

Its like giving a near bankrupt person a credit increase.

Im tired of the Tampas and Kansas citys not being able to compete.

Could you imagine if it was the same way for football?

All you would have is the Giants, Jets and Patroits every year. The Saints and Packers of the world would go 2-14 every year. Thats no fun.

Just when I was starting to believe that at least the Twins of the world could compete, the stupity of the owners rears its ugly head again.

Whats next Jeff Weaver 5 years $70 mill, just because he threw a few decent games in the post season?

I'm sorry but the Patriots payroll is low comparing to half the league.

they have a salary cap. It maybe lower this year because of things that go against it that don't count but that stuff cathes up to the cap and counts against team eventually meaning after a few years most teams pay out close to the same amount and team spending is a non-issue in the NFL.

The Red Sox sign former Devil Ray Julio Lugo to a four-year-36-million dollar deal. I think that's about a quarter if not a third of the Rays entire team salary. What a joke. Boston and the Yankees continue to ruin baseball.

In general, you're correct .... but for the Patriots this year, it is not so.

They have saved $9 million on the cap and will not use it unless they plan on giving someone a pay raise this year.

The Bengals used to do the same thing in the 1990s - they would consistantly spend less than the cap and save money.

This is the worst offseason in the history of baseball. Worse than the AROD and Manny year.

JD DREW 16 million when they already had someone that was probably just as good if not better in TROT NIXON.

Boston is really fucking up bigtime.

They should force Papelbon to be the closer. When does the player get to decide what role he plays? Boston clearly needs him as a closer.

There is more to it than spending money though, you can't claim that if every team could spend like the Yanks and Sox they would do well. It takes adept management too. Just look at the Cubs; they spend 2nd to none and still suck, year in, year out. (And the Mets, with this year as an exception as they mortgage their future away)

The Cubs have never spent second to none. I bet the Cubs in the past with the Tribune Company has spent less money per dollar earned than any team in MLB. The Soriono signing was totally out of charater for them.

Spending money does not equal success true. But not being able to spend money does equal failure.

A team like Tampa and Kansas City, the only hope they have, is to have a competitive team about once every 10 years, and thats only if they make absolutly perfect decision for about 5 years staight with no mistakes. Even then, that only alows those team to be competitive for about a 2 year window, because once there young start become free agents, they have to let them go.

The Yanks and Sox can make huge mistakes every year with no problems. They can buy there way out of bad deals. Tampa cant.

The funny thing is, the Yanks have all this money, but yet they still dont have the brains upstairs to make it work. If the Yanks had a good GM, they should almost never lose.

Papelbon never decided he should be a starter - his doctors/trainers did.
