sad news for sure.... I know all the local stations here have done little 2-3 minute specials on how to survive in the wilderness when it is dark, wet, and cold.

I hope that this situation sheads light on the dangers of being alone in the wilderness.....

I'm not sold 100% on this - how do you drive to where they were? - I thought the car flippe off a cliff or something - I would have sent her out for help.

They missed the highway turn off from I-5 to Hwy 101 and tried to take another route that also went over to the 101. They didn't know that route is a mountain pass typically closed for the winter and they got stuck in a remote area trying to turn around.

What really sucks is had they made that decision five or 10 miles earlier they would probably be home safe and we would not know who the Kim family is.

Sad news for the family. At least they have closure with the body being found.

I have spent most of my years in Oregon and this area is very remote and cold. Once you get off the beaten path this time of the year you are in big trouble as it is past hunting season in this heavily wooded area. Very sad news for sure!

I had the feeling this would happen. This guy did not seem like the outdoors type. I learned this lesson a long time ago. Stay with the vessel.

It took great courage to try to get help but it was the wrong decision. He should have stayed with his family and he would be ok today. At least if they never were to get rescued the would perish together.

I know it is easy to say after the fact. But if ever faced with a similar situation stay with your vessel.

Really horrible. I go to Cnet.com all the time. I love gadgets and like hearing their reviews. So I've seen video clips of James Kim all the time reviewing audio products. He seemed like a nice guy who did a great job reviewing products.

Sad to hear this happened to him and he was only 35.

There was his path. I hate to say it but he did some pretty stupid things. The biggest mistake was leaving the car and the second biggest would probably be to leave the road to venture off onto some path. I don't understand how you have two lighters and are in a forest area and still not start a fire. They burned all their tires so they could have dried some wood off during the tire fires and kept the fire going.
