It actually is. They got Pettite, a top 5 FA pitcher for less of a commitment (1 year deal + option) than everyone else on the mark (3-5 years). This also gives time for their young pitchers to develop and Igawa to get used to American baseball maybe in the pen.

They got him back a couple of years too late. They're starting to look like the New York Rangers of the late 1990's bringing back all the hits from yesteryear.

How? He's 34 Years old, since when was that old for a pitcher, especially one with Pettittes work ethic ala Clemens. In 2005 when the Astros were contenders he was 17-9 with 2.3something ERA. Last year he probably got bored playing the pirates and cubs every other start.

Or all of those seasons throwing 200 IP+ when factoring in post seasons are taking it's toll. He's coming off of what is possibly his worst season in his career.

The guy is a gamer, and clutch in big games, but I don't see this move working out for the price.

How many 30+ players are they going to continue trotting out? Aside from Cano, isn't every starter over 30? Aside from Wang, almost everyone is over 35.

Its only a one year deal. He is a beast in big games. Given the market this offseason and the need to get a solid arm, this is a smart move for the Yanks.

Done, thanks. Yankees are trying to win the postseason now, not the regular season, which they have been incapable of doing because everyone shuts down. Bringing back players who know how to pitch in postseason is key.

Worth the price.

If the Yankees land the Rocket as well then this is a great move...since they could care less how much they spend and how many 35+ year old starters they have to pick from if one or the other pans out all is well in NYC.

So where do the Yankees stand right now with their starters, what is Mussina's status?

I really expected Zito to be in NY at all costs....what is the deal, is Zito too young for the Yankees? lol

If that rotation survives without any major time down time, I'll be amazed.

The pitching staff doesn't matter cause Arod will keep this team from winning. Nothing like the Arod factor. Jeter not pleased.

i think its a great signing and im a red sox fan...like others said it could lead to them signing the rocket...and even though the price is redonkulous...compared to what some of these AAA clowns are signing for its not that far off base and its only 1year....christ they BLEW 40large on pavano...and 10s of millions more on other busts...if pettite craps out they can at least look back at what he gave them in the past...whats funny is how 2years ago manny cleared waivers and now today it would be like stealing...

that staff is deep, abeit old, is loaded with guys who can throw

Maybe Andy is considered old because he's been "retiring " for about 3 years now !

I'm not sure The Boss will accept that kind of deal, anyone know for sure if NY has said they'd go for that? Having Clemens stong in October would be in NY's best interests as we know they will make the playoffs.
