Do you do it to honstly help people, or do you do it for ego and recognition? Just wondering and please be honest.

Helps me keep myself in check with my best plays, keeps a recordable record for all to see. If you're honest with yourself, it makes you a bit more selective with your plays when they are charted. Constructive feedback helps.
Plus, when I found this site, I thought I was better than 75% of the people posting.

I've always been successful in sports wagering and my weakness had been over-betting and chasing. I decided to post to help others and to help my self. I was going to post everything I did. I'm pretty conservative in my approach in that the fewer bets I make (daily, weekly, monthly) the more money I win. So going public with my picks helps me stay the course. Full disclosure keeps me from chasing as its there for all to see. I still occasionally chase and will post a pick with a disclaimer saying its a chase bet. Been here years and have been approached by betting sites to join them (usually during a season hot streak) but I'm not interested Why, I do pretty good on my own ( hitting between 54 to 55% all sports here all posted bets in the last 4 years. Stopped doing baseball, I suck in baseball) and don't need the constraints of having to answer to anyone. Here I get all my needs met comradity, ego satisfaction public restraint and helping others.

Tonight 12/11 I'm taking Utah at home NBA..looked at StLou NFL but my records show I haven't had a grasp on them all season and they have burned me more than any other team. I can't ask a Chicago team that clinched, with nothing to play for (with Grossman at qb) to win me money. St Lou will burn me again I fear. Comfy with Utah at home.

Just saw chitowns response thats what I was trying to say...

That seems like an honest enough reason. I agree it does keep you in check when you actually put your plays in print.

It can go two ways though, you can start to feel the need to post more picks and make more plays then you normally would, we see all the time "anything for the late game".... in a perfect world it would keep you in check and it certainly can, again it comes down to discipline and experience...

Just like gambling can be addictive, you can fall into the same trap of feeling that extra urge to post 'one more game' for the day, I know many get a huge rush out of the back slapping after the games, and some most definitely deserve it.

I lurked for about a year and my results we markedly up due to the wealth of info on here back in the day. After reading some books , gathering databases, and LOTS discussion w/ guys who have been at it for many years , I finally started to see the light. Years of poker playing for a living already supplied me with a lot of the tools (money mngmnt. , selective in amt. of plays, +EV concept, etc. .) so I really needed to "do the work". Well , it took me almost 18 months before I felt comfortable enough posting my plays , starting in the MLB tracker and main forums as a way of passing it forward as well as keeping me focused w/ documented plays to review when things were not going well (also learned this from poker recordkeeping, probably THE single most important piece of advice I ever got btw, can't get where you want to go if you don't know where you are:103631605 ) Anyway, what started as a hobby, is now a profitable full time endeavour that generates approx. 45% of my annual income. The RX was a BIG part of that , and for that I am grateful. Longevity in this racket is not easy , but it can be done. Have only been at it "seriously" for a couple of year, and can see the need for balance to avoid burnout already, so mostly just play MLB in the Spring/Summer and NFL in the Fall , w/ the month of August off completely re: sports wagering.
Have seen many good and bad 'cappers come and go here just over the last 4 years or so , and the new blood reflects what I see at the poker table , young , aggressive, and impatient. Experience is an invaluabe tool, so when I see someone who seems to be practicing good skills, whether at the poker table or here, I go out of my way (usually privately) to pass forward the wisdom that was given me when I was in my youth and knew EVERYTHING, lol !! It's like Mark Twain (S.Clements) put it.......
"the older I get the smarter my Father seems to be " !!! There is a lot to be taken from that statement, and I wish you all the best in whatever it is that you do , and hope this Holiday everyone takes the time to realize how lucky you are EACH day just to be alive, playin w/ house money every time my feet hit the floor every mornin' . Remember,....

I never posted plays and then I started to a while back and it helped. It helps you list the plays and keep organized and have a visible record. I kept a lot of mental records previously but having written for the world to see is much better. It helped me be a lot better handicapper. I also only kept financial records and was lazy about my overall record just themoney side. Posting helped me see my record and analyze from there.
