I'll bet it's more than U.S. banks have in dormant bank or savings accounts, which I understand is considerable.

With a bank, tho, the unclaimed money eventually reverts to the general fund in the state where the bank is located.

The books just pocket it.

Someone got an account and dies or gets killed and no one else knew about it . . .

Or the wife may have known but doesn't know password . . .

Or confused out of control gambler just forgets where his money is . . .

Or he takes the cure, joins GA, and just prefers to forget about it . . .

Lot of money I think we're talking of here. All pure profit for the offshores.

I just recently stumbled across $3,000 that I had forgotten about in one of my obscure books.

Nice Christmas present.

Good for you. The same thing happened to me, but with much different consequences. You probably don't recall my post of several months ago, but I had around $1k at TCBets (now owned by BetCris). They decided to simply wipe it out and steal the money from me because of "inactivity". I don't think any bank could get away with that!

I gave the wife all account info including passwords. I usually have at least 20 dimes offshore combined in all my accounts.

I'm sure it's a decent amount, but in no way is it more than is unclaimed in U.S. banks. Not even close. With that you are talking MANY MANY BILLIONS. Tens of billions. In fact, there may be almost as much unclaimed $ as if there is in offshore sportsbooks total.

And unclaimed $ do not eventually revert to the state, at least not in Illinois. It just sits with the state's treasurer in perpetuity until valdily claimed.

Back when I was doing casino's, it wasn't uncommon for me to "lose" a few hundred in the organized chaos that was going on.

I forget about $150 in one of my crypto accounts. Luckily, they sent me the check without even asking. I have to keep better track of my moneys.

I won't even get started on how much gets left in the banking system. As far as books, I've done it 2 or 3 times. I most recently found $320 in a book, and tried to blow it up.

Well, I blew it up alright  .
